Michael Saylor and Eric Trump defended Bitcoin after criticism from former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Johnson wrote in a column that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies resemble "a giant Ponzi scheme." He argued that the value of cryptocurrencies relies heavily on continuous demand from new investors entering markets. Johnson wrote, "I have always suspected from the outset that all cryptocurrencies were basically a Ponzi scheme."

Johnson explained that Ponzi schemes rely on a steady flow of new investors who believe future participants will push prices higher. He illustrated his concern using an example from his village involving someone who invested in Bitcoin. According to his account, the individual invested about £500 after hearing promises of rapid returns. The investor later struggled to recover funds and eventually lost nearly £20,000 after fees and complications.

Saylor and Eric Trump Push Back on Criticism

The advocates of Bitcoin were quick to respond to the comments made by defending the underlying technology of Bitcoin. Michael Saylor, the executive chairman of MicroStrategy, dismissed the idea of Bitcoin being a Ponzi scheme. Instead, he emphasized the transparent monetary system underlying Bitcoin. Ethereum Foundation Has Announced That It Has Sold More Ethereum (ETH)

The Ethereum Foundation announced that it has completed a sale of 5,000 $ETH in the over-the-counter (OTC) market.

According to the foundation’s statement, the sale was conducted at an average price of $2,042.96 per $ETH.

The statement indicated that the OTC counterparty to the transaction was the crypto investment company Bitmine. Such OTC transactions are typically preferred to limit price volatility in the market and prevent large-scale selling from creating sudden price impacts on exchanges.

Bitmine is known for consistently accumulating $ETH, similar to Michael Saylor’s Strategy company, and the company has no plans to sell $ETH anytime soon. Therefore, this sale by the Ethereum Foundation will not create selling pressure in the market, at least for now.

The Ethereum Foundation stated that the proceeds from the sale will be used to fund the organization’s core operations and activities, including protocol research and development, ecosystem development programs, community grants, and other support programs. The Foundation also argued that this transaction is part of its regular financial management activities, conducted under its previously published treasury management policy.

Bitcoin’s [BTC] recent move above $72,000 on the 13th of March does not yet confirm a sustained bullish trend. While the rally was notable, broader market indicators suggest that bearish pressure may still dominate the near-term price structure.

At press time, BTC had retraced to around $70,650 as market sentiment began to wane. With the market reassessing its momentum, key on-chain indicators provide a better picture of Bitcoin’s current position.

Weak demand continues to weigh on Bitcoin

The Buy/Sell Pressure Delta, a metric used to assess which side of the market holds stronger influence, indicates that the demand behind BTC’s recent upward move remains fragile.

Data from Alphractal shows that a pattern resembling a death cross formed shortly after the breakout. This occurs when the sell pressure line (red) crosses above the buy pressure line (green), indicating that sellers have begun to outpace buyers.

The crossover suggests that short traders increased their exposure soon after the price spike, distributing more Bitcoin into the market than buyers accumulated within the same period.

Even so, this development should be viewed as a cautionary signal rather than a confirmation of full bearish control. A broader look at the Delta shows that the indicator remains in positive territory, meaning that overall market pressure still leans toward buying activity.

What the data highlights instead is a short-term shift in momentum, where sellers have gained temporary control.
