Bitcoin miner MARA has transferred 298 BTC to Cumberland, a move that could be linked to the company’s new stance on BTC sales.

According to on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant, mining firm MARA has just made a transfer out of its Bitcoin wallets. The transaction has occurred just nine days after the company said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it expanded its digital asset management strategy to allow for sales from BTC held on its balance sheet.

Historically, the miner has held onto the BTC that it has mined and purchased additional tokens for its treasury. Last year, however, it changed its strategy to permit sales of tokens generated via its mining operations. The expansion from earlier this month further built on this policy.

Considering that the miner is open to selling Bitcoin now, the latest outflow transaction from its reserve could be significant.

As displayed in the above graph, this transaction involved around 298 BTC (worth $21 million right now). According to CryptoQuant, the move was to Cumberland, a digital asset liquidity platform aimed at institutional entities.

MARA’s change of stance has come while the firm has been making a push into the AI datacenter space and amid a bearish downturn in the cryptocurrency sector. Bitcoin mining is an energy-intensive process, so all miners have to pay a constant running cost in the form of electricity bills. Whether miners can net a profit on their operations depends on the value of the tokens that they are mining, which tends to go down during bearish market phases.

While Ripple has remained consistent in controlling the amount of $RLUSD in circulation, it might have just conducted the largest daily $RLUSD burn ever.

In the last day, Ripple recorded multiple burn transactions for $RLUSD across both Ethereum and the $XRP Ledger, sparking discussions across the crypto community.

41 million $RLUSD out of circulation

Following consistent token burns, a total of 41 million $RLUSD were sent to null addresses within 24 hours, where they can never be retrieved.

The total burn activities happened in four separate transactions. The first two transactions happened consecutively on the $XRP Ledger, with Ripple removing 15,000,000 $RLUSD each from supply.

Meanwhile, the remaining two $RLUSD burns happened separately on the Ethereum blockchain. The transactions carried eight million $RLUSD and three million $RLUSD respectively, bringing the total burns for the day to a massive 41 million $RLUSD.

While numerous amounts of the stablecoin were also minted during the same day, the practice signifies Ripple’s commitment to retain value for the token while rebalancing its liquidity and maintaining stable reserves.

The massive single-day $RLUSD burn recorded yesterday has come amid the growing adoption of stablecoins across the globe. Corporate entities have continued to utilize stablecoins, especially for cross-border payments, remittances, treasury operations and on-chain settlements.

Just yesterday, Ripple disclosed its partnership with the global payment giant Mastercard amid efforts to bring fiat settlements on-chain.

As Ripple continues to adjust $RLUSD supply across networks to support growing institutional and market demand, Mastercard has chosen to utilize the token to achieve its mission.

Bitcoin climbs to near $72,000 after Treasury Secretary Bessent attempts to calm oil fears



With fears growing over the economic impact of surging oil costs, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday evening that the Trump administration is taking steps to promote stability and lower energy prices.

"To increase the global reach of existing supply, the U.S. Treasury is providing a temporary authorization to permit countries to purchase Russian oil currently stranded at sea," said Bessent in an X post.

"The temporary increase in oil prices is a short-term and temporary disruption that will result in a massive benefit to our nation and economy in the long-term," added Bessent, suggesting market fears about the rise in oil prices were overblown.

Indeed, oil rose nearly 10% to nearly $100 per barrel on Thursday, helping to send the already slumping U.S. stock market to sharp losses.

Bitcoin BTC$71,602.93, which was able to hold the $70,000 level throughout most of the day, has jumped to just below $72,000 in the minutes following the Bessent post, now higher by 2.2% over the past 24 hours.

WTI crude oil has pulled back about $2 per barrel, currently trading at $95.22.

The analysis platform Glassnode stated that, at the macro level, the price of $BTC is stuck between the realized price ($54,400) and the actual market price ($78,000).

Glassnode stated that according to their charts, $BTC spent much of 2023 between these two levels, adding, “Unless there are broader macroeconomic downturns, this December market could support a recovery rally.”

However, analysts noted that recovery rallies have repeatedly been stalled near the true market price (currently around $78,000).

Lastly, crypto analyst Titan, using a pseudonym, said that $BTC rising above the $78,000-$80,000 range could signal a change in the long-term trend and reverse the downtrend.
