Build a bigger model. Spend more on compute. Release it. Rinse and repeat, with litte regard for the unknown unknowns.

The average “p/doom” (probability of AI eventually going catastrophically wrong) among AI researchers was estimated to be between 15% and 20% in 2024.

A year later, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei upped the stakes, saying he believed there was a 25% chance “that things go really, really badly.”

Even as far back as 2014, xAI chief Elon Musk warned:

“We need to be super careful with AI. Potentially more dangerous than nukes.”
And OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged in 2015 that AI would “probably, most likely, sort of lead to the end of the world,” but that, in the meantime, there would be “great companies created.”

With better odds of cheating death playing Russian Roulette, anyone with even a fleeting interest in the topic has had an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of their stomach for a while now.

So what’s changed? Why are the companies driving the AI race suddenly asking to slam on the brakes?

That’s what happened over the weekend, when Amodei published an essay calling for frontier AI development to be “paced,” warning that AI capabilities are advancing faster than the industry’s ability to understand and control them, and that the internet could get taken over by AI swarms within six to 12 months.

Altman broadly agreed, saying the world deserves the “confidence” that the companies developing ever-more capable AI will act “responsibly,” and Musk backed Amodei’s proposal, simply commenting:

“Dario is right.”

The Senate is set to vote on the CLARITY Act, while $XRP price is shaping up for a potential breakout. Crypto analyst CasiTrades believes there’s potential for more significant action. However, she also gave a warning that Ripple’s $XRP may face massive resistance if the rally gets to the important price levels.

$XRP Price Eyes Massive 40% Surge Amid CLARITY Act Hype
Just before the vote, CasiTrades posted the $XRP price chart on X. According to her analysis, $XRP is forming a consolidation pattern below a critical resistance area, as demonstrated in the chart above. $XRP was trading around $1.43 when the chart was posted.

$XRP has been consolidating under resistance for quite some time, says CasiTrades. The token has also stayed at the 0.5 Fibonacci retracement level.

“That keeps this W4 structure valid,” she said. The analyst hinted that a new local high is still possible.

She believes that the $XRP price may reach $1.74-$1.78 in the short term. At the current price of $XRP around $1.43, a price increase to $1.78 would be a gain of approximately 25%.

Moreover, if the $XRP price rally comes closer to the larger targets on the chart, it could even hit $2.02 soon. This suggests a whopping 40% surge form current the levels.

However, a sustained trading move to the $1.74 to $1.78 range could meet “HEAVY resistance,” CasiTrades said. If she can make it to that point, she feels it could provide a five wave structure since the recent low.

That’s the biggest catch for $XRP bulls as a rally fueled by the CLARITY Act could still be followed by a sharp rejection.

The CLARITY Act Remains A Key Catalyst
CasiTrades noted that with the upcoming vote of the CLARITY Act on tomorrow, it’s “crucial” that the timing is right. If the bill passes tommorow’s cloture vote successfully, $XRP price might approach the next resistance zone.

Bitfinex’s Alpha market report published on Monday highlighted that BTC’s recent consolidation reflects limited selling pressure but insufficient demand to sustain a breakout. BTC has remained within a 5.5% range for more than 24 trading sessions, while leverage has continued to build around both ends of the range. 
“Meanwhile, higher energy costs, rising real yields and weakening consumer confidence are creating a more difficult macroeconomic backdrop ahead of the Federal Reserve (Fed) Wednesday’s decision on rates,” added the analyst.

SEC's Atkins backs Clarity Act but says agency will keep pushing crypto rules without it

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins urged Congress to advance the crypto market structure bill best-known as Clarity Act, while making clear the agency’s crypto agenda will move forward regardless of the bill’s fate.

“Congress should vote to advance the Clarity Act and send it to the president’s desk as soon as possible,” Atkins said Monday during a keynote at a Solana Policy Institute event in Washington. “But let me be equally clear: with or without that legislation, this administration will deliver for American investors and technological innovators.”

The Senate is set to hold a cloture vote Tuesday afternoon U.S. Eastern time on a motion to proceed to the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a procedural test of whether the sweeping crypto market structure legislation has enough support to advance.

SEC to advance crypto agenda regardless of Clarity Act vote

Atkins used much of his speech to lay out the SEC’s parallel regulatory push under “Project Crypto,” highlighting three areas that he said would form the foundation for how digital assets are issued, transferred and held in the U.S.

The first is the SEC’s proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which Atkins described as one of the commission’s most significant efforts to modernize securities regulation for crypto.

If adopted, he said, the framework would give entrepreneurs greater certainty to raise capital in the U.S. using digital assets rather than having to “guess what the law is as they go.”

The second is an overhaul of transfer agent rules to include blockchains for digital ownership ledgers. Atkins said the rules have not been seriously updated in roughly four decades and were built for paper stock certificates, while transfer agents are already adapting to a market that increasingly incorporates tokenized assets.
