Through this initiative, the payments giant aims to connect Polygon’s on-chain payment infrastructure with the traditional financial system. By doing so, Mastercard is opening the door for banks, businesses, and merchants to interact more easily with digital assets.
The integration could make blockchain-based payments more practical for everyday use. Instead of operating separately from the traditional banking system, Polygon’s network can now work more closely with established financial institutions, potentially improving settlement speed and increasing transparency in transactions.

A recent report from CryptoQuant indicates that the Bitcoin loss supply metric, which measures the percentage of circulating BTC held at a price lower than the purchase cost, has risen again.

Data shows that Bitcoin loss supply is once again approaching the 40%–45% range. Historical data suggests that this range typically occurs during market cycle transitions, particularly in the middle of a bear market or during prolonged corrections.

Historical cycles are highly relevant. The increased proportion of loss-making tokens in 2015, 2019, and 2022 all highly coincided with periods of intensified selling pressure and sustained market weakness.  When more investors are in a state of unrealized loss, selling pressure often increases – participants, in an uncertain environment, either choose to cut their losses and exit the market or reduce their positions to mitigate risk.

The rising supply of unprofitable tokens indicates intensifying market pressure.

The report also points out that within Bitcoin's current sideways trading pattern, broader structural signals are emerging. As the unprofitable supply indicator continues to rise, more and more holders are passively holding their positions at prices below their cost basis.

Dubai gold experienced a rare "negative premium" last week.

Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, many Dubai gold traders, unable to guarantee timely delivery and to avoid indefinitely incurring storage and financing costs, are selling off their inventory at a wholesale price $30 per ounce lower than the London benchmark price.

While this negative premium is primarily concentrated at the wholesale level and has not yet affected retail gold prices, it is almost unheard of in normal markets. Gold is traditionally considered one of the most liquid physical assets globally; theoretically, as long as a significant price difference exists, arbitrage funds will quickly move it to markets with higher prices, eliminating any price discrepancies.

However, this time, the arbitrage channel has been abruptly cut off by the real world.

 This easily evokes memories of the negative oil prices of 2020, with the underlying logic being identical: when the delivery of physical assets incurs high transportation, insurance, and storage costs, and faces significant uncertainty, a misalignment arises between the "paper price" and the "actual value."

In other words, gold is just one aspect; the underlying issue is a problem with the entire asset flow channel. This also means that Dubai, as a global offshore financial center, is facing a functional stress test.
