Bitwise’s Matt Hougan revisits $1 million bitcoin — analysts agree but debate his timeline

Bitcoin could eventually reach $1 million per coin if it captures a larger share of the global store-of-value market currently dominated by gold and government bonds, according to Bitwise Asset Management CIO Matt Hougan.

In a report earlier this week, Hougan said bitcoin’s long-term upside depends less on short-term market cycles and more on how much of the world’s wealth preservation market the cryptocurrency absorbs over time.

"One million sounds crazy," said Hougan. "It implies bitcoin will rise 14x from today’s price."

He pointed to several factors supporting that forecast, among them the rapid growth of the global store-of-value market, including gold, government bonds and other defensive assets, which has expanded from roughly $2.5 trillion in 2004 to nearly $40 trillion today. Bitcoin currently represents only about 4% of that market by value.

If the largest cryptocurrency were to capture roughly half of that market under current conditions, its price could approach that $1 million mark within roughly a decade, Hougan said. If the broader store-of-value market continues expanding, bitcoin would require a smaller share to reach that level.

How ZKP Could Change XRP
For years, the XRP Ledger — much like Bitcoin — has faced criticism for its high level of transparency, where transaction details are publicly visible on the blockchain. The introduction of ZKP technology aims to address this limitation.
Zero-knowledge proofs allow the network to verify the validity of a transaction without revealing sensitive information. This means the blockchain can confirm that funds exist, a transaction is valid, and no double spending has occurred without exposing details such as the transaction amount, sender or receiver addresses, or the asset being transferred.
This upgrade could significantly enhance privacy and confidentiality on the XRPL while maintaining the network’s security and efficiency.
Hybrid Privacy Through Confidential Tokens
Another important feature planned for XRPL is confidentiality on demand. Instead of becoming a fully anonymous blockchain, the network will adopt a hybrid privacy model.
Through the XLS-372 standard, users will be able to create confidential multi-purpose tokens. This system allows transactions to remain private for the public while still enabling auditors or regulators to access data through special viewing keys when necessary for compliance.

Stablecoins Drive Productivity, Druckenmiller Says

In a recently released interview with Wall Street Titan Morgan Stanley, Stanley Druckenmiller shared his expert thoughts on several financial and economic subjects. 

When asked about the crypto industry, the veteran investor described blockchain and stablecoins as two inventions that are “incredibly useful in terms of productivity”. Druckenmiller boldly claimed that the US payment system would likely run on stablecoins within the next 10-15 years.  

Druckenmiller is the former chairman and president of Duquesne Capital, a hedge fund he founded in 1981 and closed in 2010 with an asset under management (AUM) of $12 billion.  

The experienced financial professional expects the potential full-scale adoption of stablecoins, stating they are “efficient, quicker, and cheaper.” Notably, these comments come months after US President Donald Trump signed the GENIUS Act into law, thereby establishing a recognized regulatory framework for the issuance and operation of stablecoins.
