$19B could “vanish” from Bitcoin ETFs without a single Bitcoin being sold

Bitcoin ETF outflows might look scary in dollars, but the story changes fast when you measure them in BTC.

Headlines about Bitcoin ETF outflows often mix two things: Bitcoin's price move and actual share redemptions.

If BTC drops, ETF AUM drops in dollars even if nobody sells a single share. That mark-to-market drop gets read as money leaving, and it can look like an institutional exit when the wrapper's Bitcoin holdings and shares outstanding barely move.

To understand whether investors are actually leaving, you have to separate the USD thermometer from the BTC and share-count thermometer.

Start with the USD thermometer. ETF assets-under-management (AUM) is a mark-to-market number. A 10% drop in BTC produces a 10% drop in AUM even with zero redemptions. Many dashboards put AUM and net flows side by side, but readers mentally treat both as money in or out. But AUM doesn't show investor behavior, just the asset price plus structure.

The BTC thermometer is closer to behavior. Total Bitcoin held by the complex, plus shares outstanding by fund, answers the real question: did the wrapper lose underlying exposure, or did the price do most of the work? Data from Glassnode puts the total US spot Bitcoin ETF balances at around 1.285 million BTC even after a long stretch of outflows, which is the sort of detail the dollar headlines tend to bury.

The Jobs Number Markets Trade Isn’t Always Final

US markets move in seconds when the jobs report hits. February payrolls fell by 92,000 jobs, the unemployment rate rose to 4.4%, and prior months were revised down by 69,000.

Together, that's 161,000 fewer jobs than the numbers showed at the start of the year.

But the number traders react to first often isn't the one that lasts, because even bigger revisions can arrive months later.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has already marked down US job growth by 862,000 for the year through March 2025, raising the possibility that markets and the Federal Reserve are reacting to a labor market that looks stronger in headlines than it does in the final data.

The number markets trade isn't the final number

That's the real story inside every monthly payroll release. Investors treat the jobs report as one of the most important macro prints, and for good reason.

The second a jobs report lands, treasury yields move, stock-index futures reprice, the dollar swings, and expectations for Fed cuts or delays get rewritten within minutes.

However, the number driving that first reaction is only an estimate. It's built from a survey, revised as more employer responses come in, and benchmarked later against a much broader set of payroll records.

That means the labor market that traders price in real time is often a draft. Sometimes the later edits are small, but sometimes they change the whole picture.

Bitcoin Mining Heads to Space as Starcloud Prepares Starcloud-2 Satellite Launch

According to a report by PCMag, Redmond-based space technology and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure company Starcloud is advancing plans to place data centers in low-Earth orbit, a move designed to harness continuous solar energy and the natural cooling properties of space while also teasing the possibility of mining bitcoin beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

The company first proved its concept in November 2025 when it launched Starcloud-1 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The small, refrigerator-sized satellite carried five Nvidia H100 processors, marking the first time

Now the company is preparing a larger follow-up satellite. CEO Philip Johnston said Starcloud-2, expected to launch later in 2026, will carry a much larger GPU cluster along with specialized bitcoin-mining hardware known as ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits).

“There’s also bitcoin mining… We’ll have some bitcoin mining ASICs on the second spacecraft launching later this year,” Johnston said during the PCMag interview. “We think we’ll be the first to mine a coin in space.”

The concept relies on two advantages unique to orbit. Satellites positioned in sun-synchronous trajectories can receive nearly constant sunlight, eliminating night cycles and most weather disruptions that affect solar power on Earth. At the same time, the vacuum of space acts as a massive heat sink, allowing radiators to release waste heat directly into space without water-intensive cooling systems.
