Bitcoin tests major liquidity clusters near $74K while analysts point to a trendline throwback pattern that could shape the next move.

Bitcoin is testing two important signals at once as traders watch whether the market can turn recent strength into a clearer breakout. One chart shows heavy liquidity stacked above price, while another suggests Bitcoin is retesting a broken downtrend before a possible next move higher.
Bitcoin moved into an upper liquidity pocket near $73,000 before pulling back as heavier sell-side liquidity appeared near $74,000, according to a heatmap analysis shared by Columbus.
The Binance BTC/USD heatmap shows dense liquidation zones above the current price, with the strongest nearby cluster around $74,000. After reaching the lower edge of that area, Bitcoin reacted lower instead of holding higher. That suggested the market tested available liquidity but did not secure acceptance above the zone.

At the same time, the chart shows Bitcoin trading within a broader reclaim attempt after moving above prior channel resistance. Price has not broken out cleanly yet. However, it continues to hold within the range while traders watch whether bids rebuild on dips. Several liquidity pockets below the market, especially around the upper $60,000 range, may offer support if price pulls back again.

For now, the setup keeps focus on two levels. The $74,000 area remains the key overhead liquidity cluster, while lower bid zones could help support the reclaim structure during short term weakness.

Sky TVL Surges 38% in March

Sky, the successor to MakerDAO, is off to a strong start this month, with its total value locked (TVL) climbing to $7.52 billion, a 38% increase since March 1, according to DefiLlama.

This makes Sky the fourth-largest decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol by TVL, trailing Aave, Lido, and EigenCloud. The sUSDS savings pool alone accounts for approximately $6.5 billion in deposits and has attracted nearly $1.3 billion since the start of the month.

As DeFi yields have dried up in the wake of the market downturn, Sky’s fixed 3.75% savings rate is higher than stablecoin supply rates on major protocols like Aave and Morpho. For example, supplying USDT or USDC on Aave’s Ethereum markets currently yields less than 2%.

“Yield is definitely the main factor, but it's also one of the lowest risk, liquid yield sources in DeFi,” Sam MacPherson, CEO of Phoenix Labs, told The Defiant.

Sky founder Rune Christensen also emphasized that users are prioritizing safety amid the market turbulence.

“Honestly, it's the classic story of how Sky, just like Maker used to, always does better in bear markets because it's just focused on a solid product that can be trusted to be stable and deliver good returns,” Christensen told The Defiant.

The $SKY token has rallied alongside the surge in TVL. The token is up approximately 4% over the past seven days and 12% over the past month, according to CoinGecko.

The token remains about 26% below its all-time high, per CoinGecko, with a market capitalization of roughly $1.7 billion.

At press time, BTC had retraced to around $70,650 as market sentiment began to wane. With the market reassessing its momentum, key on-chain indicators provide a better picture of Bitcoin’s current position.

Weak demand continues to weigh on Bitcoin

The Buy/Sell Pressure Delta, a metric used to assess which side of the market holds stronger influence, indicates that the demand behind BTC’s recent upward move remains fragile.

Data from Alphractal shows that a pattern resembling a death cross formed shortly after the breakout. This occurs when the sell pressure line (red) crosses above the buy pressure line (green), indicating that sellers have begun to outpace buyers.

The crossover suggests that short traders increased their exposure soon after the price spike, distributing more Bitcoin into the market than buyers accumulated within the same period.

Even so, this development should be viewed as a cautionary signal rather than a confirmation of full bearish control. A broader look at the Delta shows that the indicator remains in positive territory, meaning that overall market pressure still leans toward buying activity.

What the data highlights instead is a short-term shift in momentum, where sellers have gained temporary control.

On Friday, Bitcoin continued its consistent pattern throughout its short history: unexpected moves.

Despite suffering a significant price drop two weeks ago when the Iran war broke out, and experts warning of a potential plunge as part of a broader sell-off in risk assets, the leading cryptocurrency is currently trading above $72,000, having previously approached $74,000 in early ET trading—its first such move since early February.

Bitcoin prices rose 2% over the past day. According to CoinGecko, Bitcoin prices have risen over 8% in the past month.

“Investors may believe that Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies as a whole are oversold relative to other assets, and are therefore increasing their investments,” GSR Research’s Carlos Guzman told DL News.

Bitcoin’s rise comes as US President Trump says the worst blow to Iran is yet to come.

“We have unparalleled firepower, unlimited ammunition, and plenty of time,” the president wrote late Thursday night on his Truth Social platform. “Let’s see what happens to these lunatics today.”
