When sentiment diverges from reality, the market usually hits speculative positions first.

Notably, that’s exactly how the market is positioned right now. According to Coinglass, the market liquidated nearly $140 million in short positions on 13 March, marking the second-largest short squeeze since the West Asian crisis kicked off two weeks ago.

From a technical perspective, the crypto market has clearly diverged from the broader macro FUD. Around $150 billion has flowed into digital assets so far this week, even with roughly one-third of the week still left to go. However, as the gap between sentiment and reality continues to widen, the key question now is – Will the crypto market keep pushing in this direction?

Bitcoin (BTC) dipped briefly below $91,000, then recovered above $92,000 within hours. No liquidation cascade materialized. No systemic unwind. The market absorbed what appeared to be a maximalist geopolitical headline and moved on.

As of press time, BTC was trading near $94,000, up 1.5% over the past 24 hours.

Three months earlier, a similar-sounding announcement, as Trump threatened a 100% tariff on China in October 2025, triggered over $19 billion in forced liquidations and sent Bitcoin down more than 14% in a matter of days.

The contrast raises a straightforward question: why did one tariff headline break the market while the other barely registered?

The answer isn't that traders have grown numb to Trump's pronouncements. It's that markets now price policy announcements through a credibility filter. Specifically, the gap between a social media post and an enforceable policy.

Jan. 12 scored low on both credibility and immediacy, while Oct. 10 scored high on both, and it arrived in a market wired to explode.

One of Wall Street’s most important voices on digital assets just made a statement about XRP. Zach Pandl, Head of Research at Grayscale Investments, told Paul Barron Network that XRP is positioned for a meaningful repricing event, and the trigger is something the entire crypto industry has been waiting on for years: regulatory clarity.

The Repricing Thesis

Speaking directly on the question of whether XRP would be repriced if the proposed crypto legislation passes, Pandl was unambiguous.

“I do,” he said. “I think we would see a repricing across a range of assets, certainly including XRP.”

His confidence is rooted in what he is already seeing in the market. Grayscale’s GXRP product, the firm’s XRP-focused investment vehicle, has been drawing consistent and growing demand from institutional investors. Pandl described those investors as looking ahead to clarity and asking what it means to unlock further value in these networks.

In other words, sophisticated money is already positioning. The repricing, in his view, has not happened yet because the regulatory framework that would justify it has not arrived yet.

Section 205: The Clause That Changes Everything

The conversation zeroed in on a specific and largely underreported element of the proposed crypto legislation: Section 205, which would require projects to demonstrate their blockchain meets a threshold of decentralisation to qualify as a mature blockchain under the law.

For Ripple, this clause carries direct implications. It would require the company to restructure or potentially burn portions of its XRP holdings to meet the 20% mature blockchain component requirement. More than 1,000 lawsuits have already been filed seeking refunds, and importers generally have two years under US trade law to sue for recovery.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters that Treasury held roughly $774 billion in cash and projected an $850 billion balance by the end of March, noting any refunds would likely be paid over weeks to months, possibly extending to a year.

That timeline matters because the mechanism through which refunds flow back determines whether this becomes a measurable liquidity event or a drawn-out administrative process.
