Papertrade Draws Reported $3 Billion in Positions in First Hour
Papertrade drew a report of roughly $3 billion in open interest within its first hour of trading on Oct. 10, bringing leveraged positions to its HyperEVM exchange where traders’ losses fund payments to winners. Josh Ong reported the figure at 10:51 a.m. ET, following the venue’s scheduled 10 a.m. opening. The total remains a reported figure, rather than an independently verified onchain measurement.

DefiLlama recorded $137.1 million in total value locked at 10:08 a.m. ET. Its methodology combines customers’ trading balances with the protocol-owned pool that takes the other side of positions. That total is therefore not a reserve available entirely to pay winners, nor is it directly comparable with the notional value of leveraged positions.

For winning traders, the distinction affects when profits become available. Papertrade administrator @izebel_eth has explained that collateral does not enter the house pool—only losses do. If a winning position closes while a payout queue exists, the trader’s original collateral becomes available again, but profits join the queue. The current house-pool balance and whether unpaid profits had accumulated could not be established.
The venue offers up to 1000x leverage. DefiLlama describes its products as synthetic bitcoin and ether perpetuals priced using the midpoint of Hyperliquid’s best bid and offer, with Papertrade’s own pool as counterparty. Open interest describes outstanding position exposure, not deposits or realized profits owed to traders.

The launch moves Papertrade beyond the predeposit stage covered in The Defiant’s earlier reporting, which recorded about $85.3 million deposited ahead of trading. The later TVL reading includes both trader balances and house liquidity; it does not establish how much the house has earned from losses.

Lithuania’s tax authority, the State Tax Inspectorate, has issued updated procedures clarifying user reporting requirements for crypto asset service providers as European authorities prepare to enact stricter tax transparency rules.

The amendments, enacted via Order VA-63, refine operational definitions and legal reporting criteria for crypto-asset users, aligning national tax procedures with the European Union’s Eighth Directive on Administrative Cooperation (DAC8) and the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF).

Under the updated framework, regulated crypto asset service providers and local crypto operators must refine customer due-diligence protocols to capture detailed user identification data, transaction records, and tax residency information.

According to a Bloomberg report, key elements of the reporting framework include clarified parameters determining which individual and corporate crypto asset users fall under mandatory reporting requirements.

The framework also provides technical instructions for platforms regarding customer identification numbers, transaction logs, and account balances. Additionally, it references international standard interpretations where specific technical scenarios are not explicitly addressed under national law.

EU-Wide Implementation

Further provisions exempt entities that have already registered and fulfilled reporting duties in another EU member state from duplicate filings in Lithuania.

The updated reporting directives follow regulatory adjustments implemented earlier in the year governing stablecoins and payment processing.

Since March 2, crypto companies conducting certain transactions involving electronic money tokens, or EMTs, must hold additional authorization to provide payment services. The requirement covers activities such as transferring

XRP price slips below $1.50 – Can ETF demand fuel a recovery?
A key divergence might be taking shape within $XRP’s current market structure.

On the macro level, the asset is following the general market weakness. Down more than 7% this week, $XRP has broken below $1.5. However, this is in line with the broader risk-off move that saw the total crypto market value drop more than 4%, pushing high-caps below crucial support levels.

But what happens when the market reverts to risk-on? Given $XRP’s current positioning, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it lead the charge in the next wave of risk-on flows. To begin with, Evernorth has completed its SPAC merger with Armada II, bringing approximately 473 million $XRP and $300 million in gross cash proceeds into the public markets.

For context, the 473 million $XRP figure represents the amount of $XRP that Evernorth holds in its treasury. Thus, by embarking on this merger with Armada II, Evernorth is enabling the firm to enter the public markets and provide investors with an alternate avenue for gaining exposure to Ripple [$XRP].

According to AMBCrypto, this is where the divergence gets interesting.

Data from SoSoValue shows $XRP ETFs continuing to see net inflows, despite $BTC and $ETH ETFs recording outflows. $XRP ETFs also clocked $67 million in daily trading volume.

The key takeaway? Franklin Templeton is beginning to close the gap with Bitwise, in terms of daily volume. Bitwise previously led by a large margin, but Franklin is now beginning to catch up, pointing to growing activity across $XRP ETF products.

$XRP ETF inflows defy $BTC and $ETH as strategic positioning builds

Notably, Evernorth’s merger and upcoming XRPN trading can be a beginning of a more significant trend.

On the fundamental side, the $XRP Ledger is also seeing progress. The latest upgrade introduces delegated key controls for banks, stablecoin issuers, and tokenized funds. In essence, busi

$SUI gained about 54% over four weeks through Oct. 10, far outpacing bitcoin and ether, even as the token pulled back over the latest week. The rally coincided with growth in Sui’s DeFi liquidity, though that expansion was smaller than the price increase.

The token traded at about $1.11 at 6:50 p.m. ET, up from $0.7218 at 6 p.m. ET on Sept. 12, according to CoinGecko. The Defiant’s calculation using the same starting time and synchronized latest quotes puts bitcoin’s gain at 7.3% and ether’s decline at 0.8% over the approximately 28-day window.

$GRVT Ripple is just three weeks away from unlocking another 1 billion $XRP from escrow, with the next release scheduled for November 1.

Notably, Ripple unlocks up to 1 billion $XRP monthly but typically returns a substantial portion to escrow, meaning not all unlocked tokens are sold on the market.

Ripple established its escrow mechanism in December 2017, locking 55 billion $XRP in time-restricted contracts and scheduling monthly releases of up to 1 billion $XRP starting in 2018

Once unlocked, the tokens become available for business operations, liquidity arrangements, and potential institutional sales.

However, Ripple typically returns a substantial portion to new escrow contracts, meaning the full 1 billion $XRP does not automatically enter circulation or get sold. The market impact depends on how much is re-escrowed, retained or sold.

Ripple’s October unlock offers a recent example. The company released 1 billion $XRP across four transactions and subsequently re-escrowed 700 million, leaving 300 million outside escrow. September followed the same pattern, as did each monthly release from January through August 2026, according to $XRP Insights.

Across the 12 monthly releases from November 2025 through October 2026, Ripple unlocked 12 billion $XRP and re-escrowed 8.4 billion, leaving 3.6 billion outside escrow. The amounts can vary: Ripple returned 530 million $XRP in November 2024 and 800 million in December, leaving 470 million and 200 million, respectively, outside escrow.

The November 1 unlock could weigh on sentiment if traders anticipate additional supply. If Ripple repeats its recent pattern, around 300 million $XRP would remain outside escrow, although this would not necessarily mean the tokens are sold on the market.

$XRP price analysis

By press time, $XRP was trading at $1.40, down 5.61%. The decline followed a rally toward $1.5
