The White House continues to express disappointment with the banking lobby’s hardline against the crypto market structure bill, the CLARITY Act.

The two industries, the crypto and banking sectors, have failed to reach an amicable agreement on stablecoin rewards. The stablecoin rewards issue has stalled the bill’s progress since early this year.

At a recent bankers’ summit in Washington, the industry maintained a hardline stance against any compromise on the bill, prompting criticism from the White House.

In response, Trump’s crypto advisor, Patrick Witt, said,

“The CLARITY Act must remain a pro-innovation piece of legislation. Attempts to hijack the legislative process and turn it into an anti-competition bill are shameful.”

Bankers’ plea
Witt’s statement followed Rob Nichols, president of the American Bankers Association, an advocacy group, who framed the current dispute as ‘anti-competitive.’

During the Washington summit, Nichols cautioned,

“Our industry welcomes competition and innovation...what we don’t support is an uneven playing field.”

Since last year, the traditional banking sector has maintained that stablecoin rewards will lead to deposit flight and harm the financial system.

The industry argues that the U.S. stablecoin law, the GENIUS Act, created a loophole that allows intermediaries to share yield with users, thereby bypassing the direct reward ban imposed on issuers.

To mitigate this, banks want the ban extended to intermediaries as well. This would mean amending the GENIUS Act or imposing the ban in the CLARITY Act.

However, stablecoin issuers view this as a threat to their business model. In fact, beyond disrupting their model, supporters view stablecoin yield as a national security issue, citing China’s push in the sector with rewards for digital yuan.

The layer-1 blockchain built for high-speed trading faces one of its most contradictory moments. As of March 10, 2026, the $SEl token trades near $0.065, posting a 5% gain over the last 24 hours alongside a broader altcoin rebound. Even so, that short-term push collides with a harsher reality: the asset has shed 67% of its value over the past year, sitting far below the all-time high of $1.14 it reached in March 2024.

Technical indicators capture that tension clearly. $SEI's price trades below its 50-day and 100-day moving averages, confirming the dominant trend remains bearish. At the same time, the daily RSI sits in oversold territory a level that historically precedes short-term bounces, though it offers no guarantee of a lasting reversal.

A $6.18 Million Unlock Arrives on March 15

The most pressing event on $SEI's calendar is the unlock of 95.14 million tokens scheduled for March 15, 2026. At current prices, that volume adds roughly $6.18 million in fresh supply to the circulating market, accounting for 1.08% of all tokens currently in circulation.

Token unlocks expand available supply and, when recipients choose to sell, they push price lower. The actual impact depends on what those recipients decide to do but markets tend to price in the uncertainty well before the event arrives.

A new Bank of International Settlement (BIS) paper argues that self-custodied crypto could become the next weak point in anti-money laundering enforcement if regulators tighten rules around other payment rails without closing the gap around user-controlled wallets. The core concern is straightforward: when one channel becomes harder to use, illicit flows do not disappear. They move.

BIS Warns About Self-Hosted Crypto Wallets

Using the EU as its main case study, the paper says self-hosted wallets occupy a particularly sensitive position because they do not rely on an identifiable intermediary to perform customer due diligence, monitor transactions or file suspicious activity reports. That is the design distinction the authors keep returning to.

“Self-hosted wallets are a type of wallet that is entirely controlled by the user, without reliance on an intermediary. Validation of self-hosted cryptoasset transactions takes place on a permissionless public blockchain, with no individual intermediary being accountable for updating accounts.” On that basis, the paper says self-hosted crypto payments, absent additional measures, present one of the lowest probabilities of detection and enforcement.

The paper goes a step further. It says self-hosted wallets may, in practice, be even more attractive for illicit use than cash. Cash still offers the lowest level of oversight by design, the authors argue, but physical constraints matter: it is bulky, harder to move at scale and riskier to store or transport. Self-custodied crypto does not have those same frictions, which means the portability and cross-border speed of digital assets can amplify the compliance gap once intermediaries drop out of the picture.

The daily picture has been unrelentingly bearish since the August 2025 peak near $0.00001500. The MFI on the daily timeframe sits at just 25.18, deep in oversold territory, which historically marks zones where at least a short-term relief bounce becomes likely. The descending channel lower boundary is now approaching current price levels, compressing price into a decision point over the coming sessions.

The 30-minute chart shows $SHIB forming a clear ascending trendline from the March 8 lows near $0.00000525, with price rallying sharply to $0.00000610 on March 10 before reversing back to test trendline support at current levels. RSI sits at 43.17 with the signal line at 41.60, both below 50 but showing no further deterioration yet.

The MACD on the 30-minute frame is compressing near the zero line following the pullback from highs, which typically precedes the next directional move. A hold of the trendline and a MACD cross back above zero would set up another attempt at $0.00000580 to $0.00000610. A break below the trendline invalidates the short-term recovery structure entirely.
