Bitcoin, a once-obscure currency worth just a few pennies, has had a stunning rise over the last 10 years. Today, the currency has solidified its place among the largest financial assets in the world with investors, companies and governments rushing to get a piece as the original cryptocurrency breaks $100,000. 

Bitcoin’s yearlong rally has led it to climb up the list of the world’s most valuable financial assets—it is currently No. 7 on the list.  With a market cap just shy of $2 trillion, the currency is now worth more than silver and the Saudi Arabian oil company Aramco. 

Currently, the only assets that have a market cap greater than Bitcoin are gold, Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google’s parent company Alphabet. Bitcoin’s market cap was sitting around $1.96 trillion on Friday morning, just $165 billion away from Google’s.

Investor sentiment turns strongly bullish!

Investor sentiment over the past day has leaned decisively bullish. In fact, data from the cryptocurrency aggregator CoinMarketCap revealed a sharp hike in the number of participants expressing a positive outlook.

The platform’s Community Sentiment metric, which tracks voter consensus, showed that 90.81% of the 4.4 million voters expect PI to trend higher.

In practical terms, this meant that roughly 3.99 million participants may be anticipating a notable rally. Historically, such elevated optimism tends to appear during periods when traders expect strong price expansion.

Market activity also seemed to support the optimistic outlook. When the price and volume rise simultaneously, it typically means that buying pressure is strengthening. It also means that the probability of continued upside might increase.

At press time, the trading volume had surged by 147% in just 24 hours to $32.63 million. During the same period, PI traded at around $0.19 after gaining by 14%. A combination of strong price appreciation and rising participation often creates the conditions for sustained rallies.

Bitcoin correlation raises a warning sign

Despite the bullish momentum though, one key metric presented a potential risk at press time.

Analysis of the correlation coefficient between Bitcoin and PI revealed that the relationship between both assets has reached a level that historically coincides with price divergence.

Back shared the projection during remarks at the Global Alts Miami 2026 conference, where he discussed Bitcoin’s long-term outlook. He argued that $BTC has consistently distinguished itself from other assets over the past decade, delivering some of the strongest annualized returns among major asset classes.

He also highlighted Bitcoin’s strong risk-adjusted performance, often measured using the Sharpe ratio. However, Back noted that investors must be willing to tolerate significant volatility to capture those returns.

Within that context, he revisited the widely discussed “digital gold” narrative. If Bitcoin’s total market capitalization eventually equals gold’s global market value, Back suggested, the implied price could approach $1.5 million per coin.
