Senate leader says Clarity Act unlikely to advance before April: report
U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he does not expect the Clarity Act to clear the Senate Banking Committee before April, according to Punchbowl News.

Discussions around the bill remain in deadlock as the crypto and banking sectors have yet to reach a compromise on the issue of stablecoin yield.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune signaled that a key cryptocurrency market structure bill could face further delays, suggesting lawmakers may need more time to resolve outstanding issues.

According to a Punchbowl report cited by journalist Eleanor Terrett on X, Thune said that he does not expect the crypto market structure bill — also known as the Clarity Act — to clear the Senate Banking Committee before April.

"Market structure is a bill that's, I'm hoping, going to come out of the Banking Committee soon, probably not before, I would say, the April time period," said Thune, per the report. The Block has reached out to Thune for further comment.

The Clarity Act is designed to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets in the U.S., clarifying oversight of crypto markets and participants. The House of Representatives has already advanced the legislation, while discussions continue in the Senate.

Also on Thursday, the Senate passed a comprehensive housing bill featuring a provision that prohibits the Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC. The legislation now moves to the House for further debate and voting.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are prioritizing President Donald Trump's SAVE America Act, which Thune said the Senate is set to vote on next week, CNBC . The bill would require Americans to provide documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote.

(ETHB) posted over $15.5 million in trading volume on its first day of trading, according to Bloomberg ETF Analyst James Seyffart.

"Vast majority of the trading is done and we are at $15.5 million in trading volume," Seyffart wrote on social media platform X, adding that it is "very solid for a day 1 ETF launch." Seyffart noted earlier that ETHB launched with over $100 million in assets.

ETHB is BlackRock's first crypto ETF that incorporates staking. The world's largest asset manager first hinted at its plans to launch staked crypto funds in 2025. Its amended S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission showed that the firm started acquiring ether in February for the launch of ETHB.

Ethereum Foundation publishes new mandate defining its role, core principles
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) released a sweeping new document outlining its philosophy, priorities and long-term role in stewarding the world’s second-largest blockchain network.

The 38-page “EF Mandate,” published Friday, frames the blockchain, whose ether (ETH) token is beaten only by bitcoin BTC$71,859.13 in market capitalization, as a technology designed to protect individual freedom in an increasingly centralized digital world and lays out the principles the nonprofit says must guide its development.

The document comes at a time of transition for the organization, following recent shifts in Ethereum’s technical roadmap and the resignation earlier this year of one of the foundation’s co-executive directors.

"The Ethereum Foundation is the original steward of the Ethereum project,” the document says. “The Foundation is not the parent, owner, or ruler of Ethereum. We are not ‘the system’ itself.”

At the center of the mandate is the concept of self-sovereignty, which the foundation describes as Ethereum’s core purpose.

“The first aim is to ensure Ethereum becomes and stays a decentralized and resilient tool for self-sovereignty,” the manifesto states. “Our first fundamental principle is that a user has the final say over their identities, assets, actions, and agents.”

To preserve that goal, the foundation says four properties must remain central to Ethereum’s development: censorship resistance, open source and free (as in freedom), privacy, and security, collectively known as CROPS.

“We hold that these properties – CROPS – must remain, as an indivisible whole, the sine qua non of all Ethereum’s development priorities, which cannot be displaced,” the mandate says.

The foundation also said it will measure its own long-term success by how unnecessary it becomes. For the time being, it will focus on work that no other ecosystem participants are likely to
