496 Billion Transactions: Solana Celebrates Sixth Anniversary With Massive Growth

Solana is marking the sixth anniversary of its genesis block today, March 16. Solana was created in 2018 by Toly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal; however, the network was launched in March 2020 by Solana Labs, with its first block created on March 16 2020. The Solana network has seen major growth since this date.

Solana's official X handle highlighted the milestone of Solana's sixth anniversary in a recent tweet, highlighting progress made on the network in the last six years.

Solana's network has never been stronger, the Solana team wrote: "Happy 6th birthday Solana fam. They said quit. The builders stayed. They said it's dead. The code persisted. They said move on. The network's never been stronger.Just one more hard quarter."

The Solana team highlighted growth metrics in the last six years, which included 496 billion total transactions, $3.3 trillion in trading volume and $17.4 billion in stablecoins on-chain. The network also saw $1.7 billion in tokenized RWAs.

Solana founder Toly Yakovenko reacted to the milestone in a recent tweet, describing it as "six years of perfection."

Bitcoin Hits $74K as US-Iran War Enters Third Week: Here's Why

Experts remain cautious in the short-term despite Bitcoin’s $74K retest amid escalating geopolitical tensions.

Bitcoin surged higher over the weekend as the conflict in the Middle East entered its third week, with the cryptocurrency's bullish momentum carrying over into Monday.

The leading crypto hit $74,157 in the early Asian trading session Monday morning, according to data from price aggregator CoinGecko. At time of publication, Bitcoin is trading at around $73,978, up 3.1% on the day and 9.1% on the week.

Bitcoin's rise comes in spite of escalating geopolitical tensions due to the U.S.-Iran war, which has sparked turmoil across markets.

It would be “very bad for the future of NATO,” if allies do not help secure the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with the Financial Times, following a Sunday post on TruthSocial calling on countries that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait to “take care of that passage,” and adding that the U.S. would help “A LOT!”

Due to the uncertainty, crude oil has been on a slow yet steady ascent and is trading at $99.25 per barrel, up nearly 28% from the March 9 low, but still well below last week’s $119.48 high.

Gold, a safe-haven asset that typically surges amid geopolitical uncertainty, is down roughly 7% since the conflict began on February 28. Bitcoin, which behaved as a risk-on asset for most of the last five months, has notched 11% in gains, widening the gap between the two.

Bitcoin’s ascent is not due to the war itself, but rather to its macroeconomic consequences, Tim Sun, a senior researcher at crypto operator HashKey Group, told Decrypt. “The combination of high oil prices, weak growth, and deficit expansion means that future U.S. fiscal pressure will only increase, eventually funneling back into liquidity issues.”

Crypto exchange-traded products recorded $1.06 billion in weekly inflows for the third consecutive week, as Bitcoin continued to dominate the flows, with significant contributions from Ethereum and Solana, while XRP saw meaningful redemptions, amid geopolitical concerns.

According to the CoinShares report on March 16, crypto investment products maintained strong momentum last week, where $793 million flowed into Bitcoin alone. While Ethereum brought in inflows of $315 million, it is partly driven by new US staking ETF listings. With that, the crypto investment products recorded $1.06 billion in inflows last week.

As per the report, approximately 96% of all inflows into the region came from U.S.-based funds, which provided the great majority of the capital. Canada came in second with $19.4 million, while funds in Switzerland attracted $10.4 million.

Then, Hong Kong recorded $23.1 million in inflows, its largest weekly total since August 2025, while Germany’s crypto investment products had outflows of $17.1 million. Now, the three-week total stands at $2.2 billion after last week’s inflows.

James Butterfill, head of research at CoinShares, said that last week’s inflows highlight how investors have increasingly viewed bitcoin as a relatively safe haven during periods of market stress.

U.S. Bitcoin ETFs See Five-Day Inflow Streak

As mentioned earlier, the majority of Bitcoin fund inflows came from U.S.-based spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). They received $767.3 million in fresh capital last week, which was their first five-day inflow streak of 2026. Yes, with about $493 million in net withdrawals so far this year, the ETFs are still in negative territory.
