outperformed gold, silver, and major US equity indexes since the US-Israeli attack on Iran began, recovering to over $72,000 even as oil surged above $100 a barrel and traders cut expectations for near-term Federal Reserve easing.

According to CryptoSlate data, Bitcoin is up 7.3% since the conflict began and even rallied to a one-month high of over $73,000. The flagship digital asset has since retraced to around $72,200 as of press time.

Over the same stretch, gold fell to $5,091, about 4% below the level it stood before the first strikes hit Iran. Silver dropped more than 10%, falling from over $90 to $82 as of press time. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down 1% to 2%.

Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller believes stablecoins and blockchain-based tokens could form the backbone of the global payments system within the next decade, even as he remains skeptical about cryptocurrencies functioning as long-term stores of value.

Speaking in an interview with Morgan Stanley recorded on Jan. 30 and released Friday, the former hedge fund manager said blockchain technology offers clear productivity gains in payments, particularly when applied to stablecoins.

“Blockchain and the use of stablecoins, if you want to throw crypto into that, tokens, incredibly useful in terms of productivity,” Druckenmiller said.

Druckenmiller Says Stablecoins Could Replace Traditional Payment Rails

Druckenmiller predicted that digital tokens could gradually replace existing payment rails used by banks and financial institutions.

“I assume our whole payment systems will be stablecoins in 10 or 15 years,” he said, adding that the technology offers faster and cheaper settlement compared with traditional payment infrastructure.

Druckenmiller built his reputation on Wall Street after founding Duquesne Capital Management in 1981.
The firm produced an average annual return of roughly 30% before closing in 2010 and famously never recorded a losing year during its run.

For the first time this year, US spot Bitcoin ETFs strung together five consecutive days of net inflows, pulling in $767.32 million across the week according to SoSoValue data. The last time anything close to this happened was late November 2025, when a similar streak brought in $284.61 million. This week’s run nearly triples that.

Tuesday was the strongest day at $250.92 million. Friday closed the streak with another $180.33 million. Total net assets across spot Bitcoin ETFs now stand at $91.83 billion, with cumulative net inflows reaching $56.14 billion.

Spot Ether ETFs ran their own four-day inflow streak simultaneously, adding $212.14 million and reversing the outflows that had weighed on the product through early March. Thursday was the standout session at $115.85 million. Cumulative net inflows into US spot Ether ETFs now sit at $11.79 billion.

Both products running positive at the same time is a signal worth noting.

The backdrop makes the inflow streak harder to ignore. Middle East tensions, elevated oil prices, and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz have pushed macro risk sentiment lower. Historically, that kind of environment sends money into gold.

That is not what is happening right now.

Trader Thomas Kralow noted on X that “Gold ETFs have seen outflows, while Bitcoin ETFs continue pulling in capital.”

He pointed to BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust attracting steady inflows while major gold funds like SPDR Gold Shares have seen money leave, arguing that for a growing group of institutional investors, Bitcoin is starting to compete with gold when uncertainty rises.

Bitcoin is currently trading at $70,686, down 1.49% on the day.
