On Wednesday, Bitcoin BTC/USD broke firmly above $72,500 and increased as much as 6.84% to $72,951 in a 24-hour period, reaching a four-week high. A severe derivatives short squeeze, a macro risk-on shift after news of secret Iran-U.S. negotiations, and encouraging regulatory developments in the United States all contributed to the surge, which was one of the most significant single-session movements in recent weeks. Important technical and on-chain obstacles must be overcome before Bitcoin can launch a persistent challenge toward the $76,380 resistance zone, despite the fact that momentum is firmly bullish.

Bitwise Asset Management, a digital asset investment firm, today announced a $233,000 donation to support open source developers who maintain the Bitcoin network, funded by profits from its spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund.

The contribution marks the firm’s second annual payout tied to BITB, fulfilling a pledge made at the fund’s January 2024 launch to direct 10% of gross profits each year toward development initiatives.

Three nonprofit organizations will receive the funds: Brink, OpenSats, and the Human Rights Foundation’s Bitcoin Development Fund, all of which provide grants to contributors working on Bitcoin’s core infrastructure.

The firm framed the donation as a mechanism to channel a share of investor-generated returns back into the open source ecosystem responsible for maintaining and securing the network.

Bitwise indicated that as assets under management in BITB expand, its annual contributions to the developer community will grow proportionally.

Bitcoin ETFs saw a record $8.9 billion exit during the recent price correction.

BlackRock’s IBIT lost over 42,000 $BTC from its peak holdings.

Inflows returned with $1.5 billion over five trading days.

Investors pulled more than $8.9 billion from spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in recent weeks. The withdrawals mark the largest dollar-value drawdown for the products since they started trading in early 2024.

The outflows began in late February as the price of Bitcoin dropped below $70,000. Data from CryptoQuant shows the average purchase price for ETF buyers was around $79,000. This means a large portion of institutional money in those funds held positions that were worth less than they paid for them.

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, ticker IBIT, was the hardest-hit fund. It lost more than 42,000 $BTC from its highest holdings total.

The sell pressure came from several directions. Broader economic concerns, including rising geopolitical tensions, likely added to the decision to pull money out of the funds.

However, the withdrawal numbers have improved since hitting the low point. The net drawdown now sits at roughly $7.8 billion from its all-time high, a recovery of more than $1 billion.

In the five trading days after the worst of the outflows, money moved back into the products. Total inflows reached $1.5 billion during that period. IBIT led the way again, taking in $263 million on March 2 alone. Monthly outflow numbers also slowed down sharply, dropping 94% between November and February.

Bitcoin traders, alert: The rally is nearing a two-year 'make or break' price zone
Bitcoin $BTC$72,554.23 is surging again and is nearing a key make-or-break level, demanding attention from traders.

The cryptocurrency's spot price has jumped a full 10% to trade above $72,000 this week, briefly popping above $73,900 on Wednesday, according to CoinDesk data. This impressive bounce, backed by ETF inflows, has fueled hopes of a renewed bull run, but the rally is now confronting a monumental challenge.

Prices are approaching a zone that has historically acted as a pivotal turning point, shaping the market’s direction over the past two years. It is a level where both uptrends and downtrends have previously run their course, and which was cited earlier this year as strong support or a potential demand zone, before it was ultimately breached.

That zone is roughly $73,750 to $74,400. To understand why it's significant, look back to the first quarter of 2024. The uptrend at that time, led by ETFs' debut in the U.S., ran out of steam, with buyer fatigue setting in right around the $73,750 mark. Prices then slipped, eventually hitting around $50,000 in the following months.

Conversely, in early April last year, the same zone performed a different, but equally decisive, role. It marked the exhaustion of a downtrend that began in February above $100,000, with selling finally drying up near $74,400. Prices turned higher in subsequent days, eventually hitting new highs above $126,000 in October.

Hence, this price zone was widely cited as a strong support, an area where buyers may step in arrest the slide early this year as bitcoin began falling. But to the dismay of bulls, prices slipped through early last month, leading to a deeper slide to nearly $60,000.

Now, once again, the zone stands as the key battleground. If bitcoin can break decisively higher, it would signal a
