Singapore-based MetaComp raises $35 million in funding backed by Alibaba

MetaComp, a digital finance infrastructure provider, said it has raised a total of $35 million across two Pre-A funding rounds completed within three months.

The Singapore-based company provides services that bridge traditional fiat payment rails and stablecoin settlement infrastructure.

The company announced Friday that the latest financing round was backed by Alibaba, Spark Venture, and existing shareholders, with 100Summit Partners serving as financial adviser. 

MetaComp operates a so-called "Web2.5" platform that bridges traditional fiat payment rails with stablecoin settlement infrastructure. In 2025, it processed over $10 billion in payments and over-the-counter volume across more than 13 stablecoins, according to its statement.

The company plans to use the proceeds from the latest funding to expand its StableX Network, which facilitates real-time cross-border settlements using both stablecoins and traditional currencies. It intends to focus on high-growth regional hubs across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

MetaComp also intends to invest in AI capabilities to support an "agentic Web2.5" architecture that powers automated payment and wealth management services.

"Traditional payment systems remain constrained by multi-day settlement cycles, high costs, and limited currency coverage, and that gap is exactly what we were founded to solve," Tin Pei Ling, co-president of MetaComp, said in the statement.

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said the agency is developing a “narrower” innovation exemption for tokenized securities, as suggested by the Investor Advisory Committee.

The IAC recommended that regulatory exemptions for tokenized securities should be on a “rule-by-rule” basis rather than through a “blanket” approach.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Hester Peirce stated today that the agency is developing an innovation exemption for tokenized securities, but in a more restrictive manner.

"Commission staff is working on an innovation exemption to facilitate limited trading of certain tokenized securities—much narrower than the 'blanket' exemption mentioned in the draft recommendation," Commissioner Peirce said during a SEC Investor Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, which discussed the subject matter.

The IAC, which advises the commission on regulatory priorities, recommended that the SEC not establish a sweeping "blanket" innovation exemption from existing securities rules for tokenized securities. Such crypto assets remain classified as securities under federal law.

In a Feb. 26 letter, the IAC's market structure subcommittee noted that such an approach could erode core investor protections, including clear disclosures of ownership rights, oversight of intermediaries, and order protections similar to those in traditional equity markets.

The subcommittee instead suggested a targeted, "rule-by-rule" reform approach, subject to public notice and comment before adoption.

"We further note that our recommendation focuses on high-level issues and principles, as the tokenization of equity securities remains at a very early stage and involves complex technological developments," the IAC wrote. "

The Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) says it will push the US Federal Reserve to change how Bitcoin is treated, as the central bank is set to issue rules on how banks should implement international guidelines for asset risk weighting.

"BPI will be reviewing this proposal closely and submitting a public comment to ensure that US regulators get Bitcoin's treatment right," Bitcoin Policy Institute managing director Conner Brown said in an X post on Wednesday.

It comes just a day after the Fed announced it will issue a proposal for public comment on how US banks should implement risk-weighting guidance, which determines how risky different assets are on a bank's balance sheet, from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.

Brown said Bitcoin (BTC) is "treated as a toxic asset under the Basel framework, a global standard for banking regulations.

"More efficient regulation" is the aim: Fed
