Bitcoin holds $71,000 despite Trump warning of strikes on Iran's oil-rich Kharg Island
Two weeks into a Middle Eastern war and bitcoin is higher than where it started.

The largest cryptocurrency was trading at $71,000 on Saturday morning, down 0.7% over the past 24 hours after the U.S. bombed military targets on Kharg Island, Iran's main crude export facility.

The reversal from Friday's $73,838 high was sharp but contained. Bitcoin gave back 3.5% on the Kharg headlines and stopped. A month ago, a comparable escalation would have triggered a much deeper sell-off.

The weekly numbers tell the resilience story. Bitcoin is up 4.2% over seven days. Ether gained 5.5% to $2,090. Dogecoin added 5%. Solana rose 4.2% to $88. BNB climbed 4.5% to $655. Every major is green on the week despite the war intensifying, not easing.

The market is adapting to the conflict in real time. Early in the war, every headline produced an outsized reaction because nobody could price the tail risk. Now, traders have a framework, where strikes happen, oil spikes and bitcoin dips only to recover again.

The pattern has repeated enough times that the reflexive sell-the-headline impulse has faded. However, the $73,000-$74,000 resistance level stays in place, and has now rejected bitcoin four times in two weeks.

Trump's language on Kharg Island added a new variable in the markets.

In a Truth Social post late Friday, he said he spared oil infrastructure "for reasons of decency" but would "immediately reconsider" if Iran continued blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran responded that any strike on energy infrastructure would trigger retaliatory attacks on U.S.-linked facilities in the region. That's a conditional escalation threat that didn't exist 48 hours ago. If oil infrastructure becomes a target, the supply disruption, which the IEA already called the largest in

Bitcoin’s daily chart on TradingView shows an improving bullish structure. This came after price pushed through the 0.382 Fibonacci level near $70,035 and then reclaimed the 0.5 retracement around $71,398. 
The breakout places the next major upside focus near the 0.618 level at roughly $72,761, which now stands out as the next resistance zone if momentum continues to build. Supporting that view, the Chaikin Oscillator has turned positive and is rising above 1000, indicating stronger money flow and suggesting capital is returning to the asset rather than leaving it.

This combination of reclaimed Fibonacci levels and improving accumulation momentum points to a strengthening short-term outlook. However, Bitcoin still needs a firm hold above these recovered levels to confirm the breakout and avoid slipping back into its prior consolidation range.

Bitcoin Miners’ AI Shift May Create New Overhang, Lekker Capital CIO Warns

Lekker Capital CIO Quinn Thompson argues on X that collapsing mining economics, combined with a growing shift by public miners toward AI and high-performance compute, could turn corporate $BTC treasuries into a fresh source of market supply.

“A large underappreciated headwind for Bitcoin is the disaster that which is mining economics. The only way this heals is through a decline in hashrate, which is being spearheaded by the AI compute first movers like CORZ, WULF, CIFR, IREN, etc.,” Thompson wrote.

The chart Thompson shared, frames the problem visually. It shows aggregate bitcoin holdings across major listed miners climbing sharply through 2024 and 2025 before rolling over in 2026. Thompson’s argument is not that the AI pivot is bearish in structural terms.

On the contrary, lower hashrate and less uneconomic competition could improve mining industry health over time. His point is that the transition itself is expensive, and that capex-heavy AI buildouts may force miners to liquidate $BTC that had previously been treated as strategic treasury.

“While helpful to long-term health and sustainability of the network economics, it presents a dilemma for prices in the near-term as Bitcoin miners hold almost 80,000 Bitcoin on their balance sheets. As these companies pivot away from $BTC mining, they 1) need capital to fund the AI buildout capex requirements and 2) have no reason to hold any $BTC on their balance sheet (not that they should have before either),” he argued.
