Giant Cryptocurrency Company Files Critical Application in the US! Ripple Had Received Approval!

According to Bloomberg, cryptocurrency company Zerohash has applied to the US OCC (U.S. Chamber of Commerce) for a national trust bank license.

According to the application, the company aims to establish Zerohash National Trust Bank (ZNTB).

ZNTB plans to offer a range of digital asset financial services, including custody, staking and verification services for cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies, transaction execution, and stablecoin management.

Stephen Gardner, Chief Legal Officer (CLO) of ZeroHash, has been nominated as the CEO of the planned new bank.

This application follows several crypto companies, including Ripple, Circle, and BitGo, that are aiming to establish federally regulated trust banks. All of these companies received conditional approval from the OCC in December. In December, the OCC announced that it had granted conditional approval to five national trust bank applications. Among the approved companies were Ripple and Circle, as well as BitGo, Fidelity Digital Assets, and Paxos.

National trust banks, unlike traditional banks, do not collect deposits or extend loans. Instead, they offer asset custody, settlement, and escrow services.

Canadian Robbed of Crypto via ATM Kiosk, Recovery Efforts Lead to Another Scam Attempt

Canadian police warned Wednesday that fraudsters are using the Royal Canadian Mounted Police logo in crypto recovery schemes targeting victims who already lost funds in earlier fraud.

The warning follows a case in Nanaimo, British Columbia, where a resident who had already lost money in a crypto job scam was later contacted by someone claiming they could help recover the funds.

The victim first lost about $5,000 CAD ($US3,600) late last year after receiving an unsolicited text message promoting a remote stock-trading job that required depositing crypto via an ATM. Communication with the supposed employer stopped soon after the payment, according to a report from CHEK.

Earlier this year, the same person encountered an online message styled as an RCMP public notice encouraging fraud victims to report similar cases.

The FTSE 100 opened 0.3% or 24.95 points lower to 10,542.70 on 5 March 2026, Thursday, as declines in mining stocks offset gains. The weakness in the index was largely driven by commodity-related companies, despite select corporate earnings helping to support the index.

Gainers: Rentokil and Entain Lead 

Rentokil surged 7.10% to £455.70 after releasing its latest financial results. 

Gambling group Entain rose 6.09% to £613.40 even as it reported a loss due to new UK gambling tax rules. Meanwhile, Mondi rose by 1.90% to £859 through the support of stable demand in the packaging sector.

Insurance company Admiral Group climbed 1.68% to £2,908. It reported strong profit growth and outlined its strategy to expand into digital commercial insurance services. 

Energy companies are benefiting from higher oil prices due to supply concerns arising from the Middle East conflict. BP gained 1.53% to £488.60

Decliners: Mining and Defensive Stocks Weigh on Index

On the downside, the mining sector dragged the index lower. Rio Tinto declined 3.77% to £6,919,  Endeavour Mining backed 2.19% to £4,742, and Anglo American dipped 2.36% to £3,435.

Games Workshop slipped 0.92% to £17,180, while pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca edged down 0.57% to £15,002. 

Consumer goods company Reckitt Benckiser also declined 1.39% to £5,966, reflecting cautious investor sentiment.

The weakness across mining stocks came as oil prices rose, with Brent crude climbing around 2% to $83 per barrel.
