After months of deep red and extreme market weakness, the crypto market is finally showing signs of a comeback despite the persisting geopolitical tensions. Amid cooling volatility, XRP is making a strong return, with its market cap surging past $93 billion.

While the Ripple-linked token has touched this milestone before, this jump represents a powerful rebound from earlier lows around $80 billion, signaling renewed momentum and growing confidence in the token.
Renewed momentum in the crypto market hints at a possible surge toward the key $2 milestone soon.

After months of weak price action, XRP has been stuck below the psychologically important $2 mark since mid-January, raising concerns among investors about a potential sharp drop. However, recent market momentum and Ripple’s adoption push could set the stage for a significant upward breakout.

Riding recent bullish momentum, XRP, a token closely associated with Ripple, is now the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, at $93.6 billion. The XRP price has jumped 3.3% in the past 24 hours, currently trading at $1.50, per CoinGecko data.

Almost nine out of 10 underwater internet cable failures over the past decade caused little to no disruption to the Bitcoin network, according to new academic research.

Random Failures Vs. Targeted Cuts
The study, published in February by researchers Wenbin Wu and Alexander Neumueller of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, tracked 68 confirmed cable fault events between 2014 and 2025.

Data shows 87% of those incidents knocked fewer than 5% of Bitcoin nodes offline. Price impact was essentially nonexistent — the correlation coefficient between cable failures and Bitcoin’s market value came in at -0.02, a figure researchers describe as statistically insignificant.

The study is the first of its kind to look at Bitcoin’s exposure to physical internet infrastructure over a long stretch of time.

Using a country-level cascade model built on peer-to-peer network data, the researchers set out to answer a question that has circled the crypto community for years: what would actually happen to Bitcoin if the internet took a serious hit?

Their answer, at least for random failures, is: not much. Between 72% and 92% of all submarine cables connecting countries worldwide would have to fail before more than 10% of Bitcoin nodes go dark.

Subsea cables carry roughly 99% of international internet traffic. Getting to that failure threshold would require a catastrophic, near-total collapse of global internet infrastructure.But the picture changes sharply when the failure is deliberate.

This upward movement is not exclusive to Bitcoin. Major projects like Solana (SOL) have broken the $90 barrier, while Cardano is approaching $0.40, benefiting from the liquidity flow flooding the ecosystem after the opening of traditional markets this Monday.

Additionally, $PEPE’s ascent has dragged other similar assets like BONK and SHIB with it, which are also recording figures in the green. This market behavior underscores the sector’s resilience against tensions in the Middle East, which caused a momentary drop to $65,600 during the previous week before the current recovery.

DeFi lobby drops airdrop lawsuit against SEC, citing crypto shift
Texas-based apparel company Beba and crypto lobby group DeFi Education Fund have withdrawn a 2024 lawsuit against the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over its approach to airdrops, citing a recent shift in the regulator’s approach to crypto.

Beba launched a free token airdrop in March 2024 and, together with the DeFi Education Fund, filed a pre-enforcement challenge against the SEC that year.

The lawsuit alleged the regulator had adopted its digital asset enforcement policy without a formal notice-and-comment rulemaking process, in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act.

The voluntary dismissal, filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas on Friday, cites the SEC Crypto Task Force’s work and statements by Commissioner Hester Peirce in several speeches last year suggesting airdropped tokens are not securities.

The filing also flags Peirce’s suggestion in May that the SEC is considering an exemption framework for airdrops, and a White House executive action from January encouraging the regulator to establish a “safe harbor for certain airdrops.”

“Given the good work done by the SEC Crypto Task Force and recent speeches that suggest a change in the Commission’s position regarding free airdrops, we decided continuing was unnecessary for the time being and we can re-file if we need to later on,” the DeFi Education Fund said in an X post on Friday.

“The DEF team expects that the SEC Crypto Task Force will address airdrops soon—the foundational issue at hand in this lawsuit,” it added.

Case dismissed without prejudice, for now

The dismissal was filed without prejudice, preserving Beba’s and the DeFi Education Fund’s right to refile if needed.

“Should the expected guidance fail to materialize or be insufficient, Plaintiffs preserve their right to refile their claims,” lawyers acting for the pair wrote in the court document.
