However, the composition of flows is shifting. Cross-border stablecoin transfers, which are a closer proxy for real-economy usage, reached record highs in 2025, surpassing Bitcoin and Ethereum for the first time.

calling the U.K a ‘giant Ponzi scheme’ given its high fiscal debt and deficits. Some even extended the sarcasm to the local currency, the Pound. 

Despite his negative view of the sector, however, the Boris Johnson administration (2019-2022) laid the crucial groundwork for the U.K’s current crypto regulatory roadmap.

Notably, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was Chancellor in Johnson’s administration at the time, pledged to make the U.K a global crypto asset hub. He initiated the push to recognize stablecoins as a valid payment method. 

In fact, the U.K’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) began crafting a regulatory perimeter for different crypto assets in 2019. At the time, most crypto activity received minimal regulatory scrutiny. 

However, the comprehensive foundation set during the Johnson administration was later built on and informed the stronger regulation of the sector in 2023. This was after Johnson left office, effectively bringing the U.K’s crypto activity within the regulated financial purview. 

So far, the FCA has approved crypto ETFs and is now working on a regulated framework for stablecoins and a broader market structure.

Dogecoin [DOGE] managed to defend the $0.088 support level despite the heavy selling pressure the memecoin faced recently. It is likely that the Bitcoin [BTC] bounce from $67k helped shore up the memecoin market sentiment.

AMBCrypto reported that DOGE and other memecoins saw heightened social media engagement. It came alongside a high liquidation imbalance and renewed speculative interest lately.

The long-term trend remained bearish, despite the 15% bounce in five days. The revival at the $0.088 support level, which has been critical over the past month, meant DOGE could climb beyond $0.1 once again.

The Moving Averages remained bearish and could act as resistance to DOGE’s rally. The volume indicators also underlined seller dominance.

The A/D indicator continued to trend downward despite the bounce. At press time, the CMF was at -0.1 to show significant capital outflow in this timeframe, further cementing the long-term bearishness.

Meanwhile, the DMI had been showing a downtrend in progress, but this got messier toward the end of February. In the past two weeks, the indicator did not give a clear reading. This gave some faint hope of a trend shift.

His concerns come as recent data showed the U.S. economy expanding at a much slower pace than expected, he said in an interview with David Lin published on March 13.

Notably, gross domestic product grew at an annualized rate of just 0.7% in the fourth quarter, sharply lower than the earlier estimate of 1.4% and well below market expectations.

Despite the weak reading, markets barely reacted. To this end, Horwitz said this reflects how modern markets function, with large institutions closely tracking the indicators behind data such as GDP and jobs figures, meaning much of the information is already priced in before the official release.

While markets may appear stable, the trader argued that the broader economic reality is far more troubling, especially for most Americans.

He said household financial pressure is rising as debt continues to grow, with many consumers increasingly relying on credit and deferred-payment financing to sustain spending.

At the same time, mortgage delinquencies remain a concern, and borrowing costs have stayed elevated. Horwitz also pointed to signs of overbuilding in several sectors of the economy, which could exacerbate financial stress if conditions deteriorate.
