Crypto exchange Bybit is strengthening its presence in the Middle East despite rising geopolitical tensions in the region.

The company recently announced the appointment of a new country manager as part of its strategy to expand operations across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

According to Bybit’s leadership, the exchange has no plans to scale back its regional operations even as conflicts escalate in the area. Instead, the company says it intends to deepen its investment and commitment to the region.

Bybit highlighted the United Arab Emirates as a key hub for digital assets, noting the country’s ambition to become a global center for the crypto industry.

The exchange also plans to continue investing in local talent, regulatory compliance and partnerships within the regional blockchain ecosystem.

Industry data suggests that around 1,800 crypto companies currently operate in the UAE, employing more than 8,600 professionals across the sector.

Periods of geopolitical uncertainty often lead to increased interest in cryptocurrencies, as individuals look for alternative ways to preserve and transfer wealth outside traditional banking systems.

Business intelligence firm Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, has expanded its Bitcoin holdings with another major purchase, further strengthening its position as the largest public holder of BTC.

According to a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company acquired 17,994 Bitcoin for approximately $1.28 billion last week.

With this purchase, Strategy’s total Bitcoin reserves have surpassed 738,000 BTC, bringing the company’s total holdings close to 739,000 BTC.

This marks Strategy’s largest Bitcoin acquisition since January, when the firm purchased 22,305 BTC for about $2.13 billion at an average price of $95,284 per coin.

Despite Bitcoin currently trading below the company’s average acquisition price, Strategy continues to follow its long-term strategy of accumulating BTC as a core treasury asset.

The move reinforces Michael Saylor’s ongoing commitment to Bitcoin and highlights the company’s aggressive accumulation strategy in the digital asset market.

Reform UK's Nigel Farage invests in bitcoin-buying company

LONDON, March 9 (Reuters) - Nigel Farage, leader of the populist Reform UK party, has invested in Stack BTC (STAK.ASE), opens new tab, a London-based company aimed at acquiring small British companies and investing surplus capital into bitcoin, a statement said on Monday.

Farage, a public supporter of bitcoin who has secured big donations from crypto investors, has said he expects digital currencies to play a big part in financial markets in the future.

Stack BTC said Farage, whose party has led British opinion polls since early last year, had taken part in a 260,000 pound ($346,814) equity fundraising alongside industry player Blockchain.com, meaning he would own a 6% stake in the company.

Stack BTC's executive chairman is Kwasi Kwarteng, who as finance minister in 2022 delivered the mini budget of then Prime Minister Liz Truss which sparked a market meltdown.

Stack BTC is one of a growing number of digital asset treasury companies (DATs) which are listed companies set up to buy and hold cryptocurrency on their balance sheets, hoping that a rise in the price of crypto will boost their share price.
