In early 2026, an asymmetrical bet was unfolding in the payments industry. From Circle launching its Arc blockchain and Nanopayments, to Stripe partnering with Paradigm to incubate the Tempo payment public chain and acquiring Bridge for $1.1 billion, the giants shared a common goal: they were no longer designing payment tools for humans, but rather building entirely new financial tracks for AI agents.

The logic behind this arms race revolves around the assumption that as AI agents become the main players in economic activity, the traditional 2-3% transaction fees of credit cards will gradually become obsolete, replaced by extremely low-fee stablecoin payment protocols. In February of this year, a lengthy scenario report from Citrini Research predicted this future, causing Visa, Mastercard, and American Express to lose 5-7% of their market capitalization in a single day.

Is this an overreaction by the market, or capital pricing in future value? It remains to be seen.  However, a significant gap remains between ideal and reality: while the x402 protocol's monthly transaction volume was still only $24 million, the global e-commerce market was already a behemoth of $6.88 trillion. This inevitably raises the question: is this a groundbreaking strategic move, or a reckless gamble that mortgages the future?

The arms race in the AI ​​payment sector has begun, but the battlefield is yet to be formed.

In early March 2026, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire revealed a detail: the company completed an internal settlement of $68 million between its eight business entities within 30 minutes using its own USDC stablecoin, without the need for traditional bank wire transfers; by traditional financial standards, a cross-border transfer of the same size typically takes 1 to 3 business days and incurs expensive bank fees.

Crypto Market Jumps as Bitcoin and Ethereum Post Strong Gains

The crypto sector is witnessing dynamic changes after the persistent bear market. Hence, the crypto market capitalization has jumped by 2.89% to hit $2.43T. In addition to this, the 24-hour crypto volume has hit the $105.37B mark after a 7.89% increase. At the same time, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index has also surged to 31 points, while still standing within the "Fear" territory.

The Expected Survey Results Are Here: What Will the FED Decide on Interest Rates? 96 Top Economists Answered!
The ongoing war between the US and Iran, events in the Middle East, and the rapid rise in oil prices have all begun to fuel fears about inflation and the Federal Reserve.

At this point, with discussions suggesting a possible delay in Fed interest rate cuts, or even a decision to raise rates, economists’ expectations have emerged.

Most economists surveyed by Reuters expect the Fed to cut interest rates by 25 basis points next quarter, bringing them to between 3.25% and 3.50%.

Of the 96 economists surveyed, 63 supported this view; this is higher than the 51 out of 101 participants who predicted a rate cut in the February survey.

In a survey conducted between March 6-12, all economists expect the Fed to keep interest rates unchanged at 3.50-3.75 percent on March 18.

However, approximately two-thirds of economists predict that the Fed will cut interest rates to 3.25-3.50 percent in June.

In contrast, 29 of the 37 economists surveyed said it was more likely that the Fed would keep interest rates stable for an extended period.

The survey median suggests there could be two interest rate cuts by the end of the year.
