The chief investment officer of Bitwise Asset Management says Bitcoin could reach $1 million under what he describes as “reasonably conservative assumptions.”In a new memo titled “How Bitcoin Gets to $1 Million”, Matt Hougan argues that many analysts underestimate Bitcoin’s long-term potential because they treat the global store-of-value market as static.Hougan says he evaluates Bitcoin as a digital store-of-value asset competing primarily with gold.Using that framework, estimating Bitcoin’s potential price involves calculating the size of the store-of-value market, estimating Bitcoin’s share, and dividing that value by Bitcoin’s fixed supply of 21 million coins.Currently, the store-of-value market totals just under $38 trillion, according to Hougan, including roughly $36 trillion in gold and about $1.4 trillion in Bitcoin. That places Bitcoin’s share of the market at slightly below 4%.At that size, Bitcoin would need to capture more than half of the market to reach $1 million per coin – a scenario Hougan says appears unrealistic if the market itself does not expand.However, he argues the key factor many investors overlook is that the store-of-value market has historically grown significantly.When the first US gold ETF launched in 2004, the gold market was worth about $2.5 trillion. Today, it has grown to nearly $40 trillion.If that growth trend continues, Hougan estimates the global store-of-value market could reach about $121 trillion within the next decade. In that scenario, Bitcoin would only need to capture around 17% of the market to reach $1 million per coin.Hougan acknowledges risks remain, including the possibility that the store-of-value market grows more slowly or that Bitcoin fails to gain significant share. Ethereum outpaces bitcoin as institutional interest returns
The second-largest cryptocurrency is climbing faster than bitcoin: over the past day, bitcoin rose 3% and ether 7.4%.

On a weekly basis, Ethereum is also ahead: the asset is up 14.1% versus bitcoin’s 9.6%.

At the time of writing, bitcoin trades at $73,546 and Ethereum at $2,253.

Lookonchain analysts, citing Arkham, said the former CEO of crypto exchange ShapeShift, Erik Voorhees, acquired 24,968 ETH worth $56.5m.
He used two crypto wallets to buy the coins. A year ago, Voorhees sold 12,886 ETH at $3,324. One of his addresses still holds 4.44m USDT and 8.64m AETHUSDT, whereas on the second all stablecoins were fully converted into Ethereum.

Voorhees’s renewed interest in the asset chimes with broader institutional sentiment. The numbers bear this out: last week, net inflows into spot ETFs based on the asset reached $160.8m.

Lookonchain experts also recorded another large on-chain transaction: Intuition Protocol CEO Billy Luedtke acquired 7,769 ETH.

Ethereum Foundation sells 5,000 ETH to Tom Lee's BitMine in $10 million OTC deal

The Ethereum Foundation sold 5,000 ETH at an average price of $2,042.96 to BitMine Immersion Technologies, the world's largest publicly traded ETH treasury company.

The deal is the EF's second known OTC sale to a corporate buyer, following a 10,000 ETH sale to SharpLink Gaming in July 2025.

The Ethereum Foundation said Saturday it finalized an over-the-counter sale of 5,000 ETH, worth approximately $10.2 million, to BitMine Immersion Technologies.

The average price was $2,042.96 per ETH, roughly in line with current market levels. The onchain transaction will come from an EF Safe multisig wallet, the foundation said in a post on X.

BitMine (NYSE American: BMNR), chaired by Fundstrat's Tom Lee, is the world's largest publicly traded ETH treasury company, holding over 4.5 million ETH valued at roughly $9.3 billion, according to The Block's treasury tracker. The company has been aggressively accumulating ETH since mid-2025, modeling its strategy after MicroStrategy's bitcoin playbook.

The deal marks the second time the EF has sold ETH directly to a corporate treasury buyer via OTC. In July 2025, the foundation sold 10,000 ETH to SharpLink Gaming at an average price of $2,572.37, a deal worth $25.7 million.

The foundation said proceeds will fund core operations, including protocol R&D, development of the Ethereum ecosystem, and community grants. These periodic sales are governed by the EF's treasury policy, published in June 2025, which outlined a framework for the organization to periodically sell ETH to maintain a fiat-denominated operating reserve. Under that policy, the EF targets 15%
