Metaplanet Deepens Bitcoin Bet With Two New Subsidiaries

Metaplanet’s Board of Directors has approved the establishment of two new wholly owned subsidiaries, Metaplanet Ventures and Metaplanet Asset Management.

Metaplanet is a Tokyo-listed firm that holds 35,102 BTC, making it one of the largest corporate holders of Bitcoin (BTC) globally. The company plans to deploy roughly $25 million (¥4 billion) over the next few years into companies building BTC financial infrastructure in Japan.

The latest move marks an expansion of its Bitcoin treasury strategy across Japan and the US.

A $25 million venture arm signals institutional capital flowing into Japan‘s BTC infrastructure, lending, payments, custody, and compliance.

The Miami-based unit bridges Asian and Western investors across yield, equity, credit, and volatility strategies.

Metaplanet Ventures signed a letter of intent to invest up to $2.6 million (¥400 million) in JPYC Inc, Japan’s first licensed yen stablecoin.

The firm plans to launch an incubator for early-stage Japanese founders and a grants program for open-source BTC developers.

CEO Simon Gerovich called Metaplanet Ventures their “commitment to Japan’s Bitcoin ecosystem.”

Metaplanet Asset Management will operate from Miami as a digital credit and BTC capital markets platform.

Metaplanet’s stock has dropped nearly 25% year-to-date, with shares sliding over 4.6% today according to Google Finance data.

The value of Metaplanet’s 35,102 BTC holdings has fallen by more than 35%.

The expansion comes despite a net loss of ¥95 billion ($620 million) in fiscal year 2025.

Derivatives positioning shows sentiment has improved since the worst of last week’s panic, though traders are still paying for downside protection and remain sensitive to oil, yields, and policy signals.
Bitcoin hovered near $70,000 on Wednesday as crypto markets found firmer footing after days of war-driven volatility, with options traders increasingly positioning for a rebound toward $80,000 even as macro risks lingered.

The tone improved after February U.S. consumer inflation came in exactly as expected. According to Wednesday's U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report, Headline CPI held at 2.4% year over year, while core CPI rose 0.2% month over month, a reading that would normally be welcomed by risk markets.

However, multiple analysts said traders are likely treating the report with caution because it captures price conditions before the latest surge in oil tied to the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the U.S.

The data could leave the Federal Reserve in an awkward spot heading into its March 18 meeting, as inflation cooled on paper, the labor market has softened, yet energy markets remain volatile enough to threaten a fresh inflation pulse in the coming data.

The fight over US crypto legislation is turning into a direct clash between digital-asset firms and one of Washington’s oldest power centers. In an interview with Pete Rizzo, Satoshi Action Fund founder and CEO Dennis Porter said the banking industry is preparing a nine-figure lobbying push that could complicate efforts to advance both market structure legislation and stablecoin rules.

Crypto’s D.C. Outlook Just Got Darker

Porter said the core dispute is no longer just about whether Congress wants to regulate crypto, but on whose terms. President Donald Trump has publicly backed keeping the GENIUS Act intact, Porter noted, which he described as a positive sign for crypto firms. But he argued that support from the White House does not resolve the deeper standoff with banks, especially around stablecoins and the issue of rewards programs that banks view as a threat to deposits.

“The bank lobby has come out and said that they do plan to spend to counteract the crypto industry,” Porter said. “They said they’re raising nine figures, which is right up there with the Fairshake number. So that does create that counterbalance where they can essentially assert themselves into the ecosystem and start to peel some of these lawmakers off.”

That matters because, in Porter’s telling, crypto is entering the fight without a clean political backdrop. He said Democrats have grown more cautious around digital-asset legislation as Trump family involvement in the sector has raised ethics concerns among both lawmakers and voters.

At the same time, he described market structure as a far more expansive and politically difficult package than stablecoin legislation, since it touches not only securities-versus-commodities questions but also DeFi, illicit finance, ethics provisions and the makeup of the CFTC.
