On September 15, Eric Lefkofsky, CEO of the American healthcare technology company Tempus AI, stated in a media interview on Monday: "Given that current models can self-train and self-improve, I can easily imagine a moment when we might ask ourselves: 'Could this spiral out of control, beyond our grasp?'" He expressed support for slowing the pace of AI development, citing safety concerns as well as capital efficiency. He praised the efforts of Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX in the healthcare sector and downplayed worries about the potential consequences of major U.S. companies slowing their investment. "I don't think reducing the speed from 100 miles per hour to 70 miles per hour poses any real risk," he said. "I don't believe other countries will surpass us because of this."
