The law enforcement agencies from three countries have started Operation Atlantic, an organized effort to disrupt crypto-related scams, dismantle fraud networks, and boost cross-border operations to target unlawful conduct in the digital asset space.

On March 16, the National Crime Agency (NCA) reported on Operation Atlantic, stating that it was a joint effort by law enforcement agencies from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

As per the report, the agencies such as the U.S. Secret Service, the U.K. National Crime Agency, Canada’s Ontario Provincial Police, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the City of London Police, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority are participating.

The Operation Atlantic’s main objective is to disrupt the organized fraud schemes, reclaim stolen money, help victims protect assets to prevent further loss, and increase public awareness of crypto investment frauds.

The operation also targets people who have lost or are in danger of losing cryptos through a method called “approval phishing,” which is usually connected to online investment scams, also called “pig butchering,” in which victims are gradually tricked into sending large amounts of money to fraudsters over time.

Then, the United States Secret Service agency noted, “Approval phishing and investment scams cost victims millions in financial loss each year,” said Brent Daniels, the Deputy Assistant Director for the U.S. Secret Service’s Office of Field Operations. Further, stating that the primary objective of Operation Atlantic is for the US Secret Service and its international law enforcement partners to quickly detect and stop these scams.

That helps explain why the vote has drawn so much attention: the argument is not over a symbolic governance gesture, but over the handling of a seven-figure crypto allocation that users say was supposed to be fully returned.

Trump ups pressure for Fed chair Powell to cut rates ‘right now’
US President Donald Trump has again pressured the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates immediately, saying at a White House meeting that they should have a “special meeting” to reduce rates.

“What’s a better time to cut interest rates than now? A third-grade student would know that,” Trump added, according to videos shared on X.

Trump has reiterated his calls for lower rates after stating on Truth Social on Thursday that the Federal Reserve chair “should be dropping interest rates, IMMEDIATELY.”

The president argued in January that the US should have “substantially lower” rates and “the lowest in the world,” labelling Powell “too late” and claiming he is “hurting our country, and its National Security” by maintaining high interest rate levels.

Trump has advocated for lower rates to reduce the cost of servicing the massive $39 trillion US national debt and stimulate economic growth, housing, and the stock market.

Lower rates can also push investors towards higher-risk assets like stocks and crypto. Cheaper borrowing costs also fuel broader market liquidity, meaning more money flows into speculative assets.

No rate changes likely at Fed’s Wednesday meeting

The US central bank kicks off its two-day March meeting on Tuesday and is slated to announce its rate decision on Wednesday.

However, CME futures markets paint a different picture, currently indicating a 99% probability that rates will remain unchanged in the 3.50% to 3.75% this week.

The outcome for the April 29 meeting is similar with a 97% probability of no change.

This is despite the expectation that Trump’s pick for Fed chair replacement, Kevin Warsh, who will take the helm in mid-May when Powell’s term ends, may be more open to cutting rates.

Popular NFT platform OpenSea has postponed the launch date of its native token, ‘SEA’.

Accordingly, OpenSea postponed the launch of the SEA token, citing market conditions.

OpenSea CEO Devin Finzer announced this situation via a post on his X account, stating that the launch of the platform’s native token, SEA, has been postponed.

“The OpenSea Foundation initially planned to launch the token on March 30th, but decided to postpone the schedule.”

Fitzer attributed the delay to challenging conditions in the cryptocurrency market and said that because the token launch was a one-time opportunity, the team chose to focus on fixing the product’s shortcomings rather than sticking to the original timeline.

At this point, Pitzer stated, “Current market conditions are not easy. Since the SEA token will only be launched once, it’s important not to proceed before we are fully prepared. We could have brought the program forward, but ensuring the level of quality the community expects is more important.”

Fitzer noted that fifty percent of the total offering is reserved for the OpenSea community, encompassing both former users and those currently participating in the rewards program, and added that this will be the last wave of rewards.

At this point, along with the postponement, OpenSea is ending its Reward Wave program and will offer users who participated in the third through sixth reward payment periods a platform fee refund option. If the refund option is chosen, the relevant Treasures rewards will be forfeited.

Additionally, the platform will reduce transaction fees to 0% for two months starting March 31st.

While bitcoin’s $BTC$73,907.94 price rise since the Iran conflict began more than two weeks ago is impressive, the performance of Hyperliquid is even more notable.

Users of the decentralized perpetuals exchange have traded millions in commodity futures, particularly those tied to oil, highlighting the utility of blockchain-based markets in price discovery when traditional markets are closed.

That trend looks set to continue as industry pundits grow increasingly bullish on commodities, especially energy.

“Energy contracts – particularly refined products such as heating oil and gasoline – exhibit stronger expected Sharpe ratios, tighter physical markets, and supportive term structures,” Prometheus Research said

The Iran conflict has already driven gains in commodity ETFs, and Mining.com predicts a lasting impact on key metals, including nickel and other critical minerals.

All this suggests onchain commodity markets could siphon capital away from bitcoin and various parts of the crypto market. Booming AI stocks supposedly did that in 2024-25, limiting gains in the largest cryptocurrency.

Another tail risk: Economists are predicting an increase in inflation due to the oil price rally, which could prompt central banks to proceed cautiously with interest-rate cuts, further weighing on risk assets. Remember, the Fed is due to announce its rate decision tomorrow.

So while $BTC looks buoyant, rapid gains may not come easily. Prices briefly topped $75,000 earlier Tuesday on the back of short-covering in futures and options markets.
