BlackRock has slashed the staking fee on its Ethereum ETF to remain competitive.

According to Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart, the world’s largest asset manager reduced its staking fee from 18% to 10%, citing an amended filing.

Most U.S Spot ETH ETFs have applied to add a staking feature to their products. So far, some issuers, like Grayscale, have begun distributing rewards to investors.

Is staking demand for ETH at risk?
With surging institutional interest as investors hunt for the 3% staking rewards, overall demand has hit record levels. In fact, the amount of staked ETH hit 37 million ETH for the first time – A 30.6% of the overall circulating ETH supply.

The massive staking demand was further reinstated after the validator entry queue flipped the exit queue in late 2025. At press time, over 3 million ETH were waiting to enter the validator system. This hinted at a strong appetite for staking rewards.

The staking demand could be net positive for ETH’s value.

However, Culper Research believes that recent network upgrades could reverse staking dynamics. According to the trading firm’s warning, Fusaka and other upgrades have lowered validator tips and contracted the overall yield paid to stakers.

The firm claimed,

“Lower yields decrease demand for staking and high-value activity, undermining institutional adoption. The flywheel is now running in reverse.”

Culper Research cited the decline in active validators as a telltale sign of an underlying crisis in the staking segment. It went on to say that this will eventually dent staking demand and overall ETH value, prompting it to go short on ETH.

While plausible, another key data point which could validate Culper Research’s short thesis would be if the validator exit queue surpasses the entry queue.

On 6 March 2026, the U.S. federal court allowed the Tether, Bitfinex Crypto Case to move forward as a class action. However, the investor’s case claims that both companies manipulated Bitcoin and Ethereum prices during the 2017 crypto boom using newly issued USDT tokens.

A federal judge in New York approved class action status in an ongoing lawsuit against Tether and Bitfinex. The decision made by U.S. District Court Judge Katherine Polk Failla allowed thousands of investors to join the lawsuit instead of filing individual claims.

The judge divided the plaintiffs into two groups to manage the case more efficiently. One group represents investors who bought cryptocurrencies directly in the spot market, while the second group includes traders who used futures contracts.

The memecoin market has seen its collective market capitalization drop by 48% over the past year, and 6.9% over the past month, according to CoinMarketCap. According to Glassnode, the memecoin sector has only gained by 2.2% over the past week, compared to the 4.6% DeFi and L2 sectors managed.

Among memecoins, PEPE’s weakness can be highlighted as an outlier. At the time of writing, the short-term and long-term charts were bearish, and the $0.00000336 local lows were under pressure once again.

The Open Interest was in decline as the prices bled to show speculators were not willing to bet on a price recovery. Combined with Bitcoin’s [BTC] fall below $70k, it would seem that the next few days could see further drawdown for PEPE holders.

A short squeeze can materialize in the coming weeks
Just like Bitcoin, PEPE also has a large number of short liquidation levels overhead. The 90-day liquidation map showed that the cumulative short liquidation leverage was much higher than the long liquidation leverage.

In other words, a price move higher would liquidate a lot more short positions than a price move of similar magnitude would wipe out long liquidations. This could be an attractive prospect for counter-trend traders, but they shouldn’t be in a hurry.

Bitcoin has a chance of dropping to $65.3k in the coming days. Whether it can defend the $63k-$65k area, or will plummet to $60k and below, will decide which way PEPE likely goes.

Traders’ call to action – Wait
PEPE has not been trading in a feasible area for swing traders. At press time, it was just below the long-term support at $0.00000342. The downtrend could see it fall to the $0.00000303 extension level to the south just as easily as it could bounce to the $0.00000379 local highs.

From a technical perspective, the firm’s involvement in the infamous 10 A.M. Bitcoin [BTC] moves can have dual effects – It may trigger risk-off sentiment, or it may act as a market test, revealing underlying resilience.

In line with this, a wallet linked to Jane Street recently transferred $19 million worth of Bitcoin, immediately drawing market attention. The question is – Does this signal another bearish phase, or will existing liquidity absorb the shock and reinforce market conviction?

Notably, the timing of this move is critical.

Bitcoin began the week bullish, rallying by roughly 12% from the $65k support level. However, in the latter half of the week, nearly 8% of those gains were wiped out, leaving only about 3% of the weekly advance intact. The result? A long liquidity crunch.

Coinglass data revealed that traders liquidated nearly $200 million in the derivatives market within 48 hours. Especially as long positions closed following a week of sustained short squeezes.
