Bitcoin is attempting to climb above the $72,000 level as the market searches for direction following weeks of volatile and largely sideways price action. While buyers have recently pushed the asset higher, the $72K zone continues to act as a key resistance level, limiting upward momentum as traders evaluate both macroeconomic conditions and on-chain signals.

Amid this technical battle, new research from CryptoQuant analyst XWIN Research Japan highlights a notable shift in Bitcoin’s long-term valuation metrics. The report focuses on the Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratio, a widely used on-chain indicator designed to evaluate whether Bitcoin is trading above or below its historical cost basis.

The MVRV ratio compares Bitcoin’s market capitalization with its realized capitalization, which represents the aggregated value of coins based on the price at which they last moved on-chain. By analyzing this relationship, the indicator helps determine whether the average investor is currently holding unrealized profits or losses.

According to the latest data, Bitcoin’s 365-day MVRV ratio has fallen to levels similar to those observed in late 2022 following the collapse of the FTX exchange. During that period, intense market stress pushed many investors into unrealized losses, compressing average returns well below historical norms and marking one of the most difficult phases of the previous market cycle.

MVRV Patterns Suggest Possible Undervaluation Phase
The CryptoQuant report notes that previous periods of depressed MVRV readings have often preceded strong recoveries in Bitcoin’s price. After the sharp market stress that followed the FTX collapse in late 2022, Bitcoin entered a similar valuation zone. In the three months that followed, the asset rallied roughly 67%, marking the beginning of a broader recovery phase.

After days of consolidation around the $1.40 level, $XRP may be approaching a decisive moment as technical indicators point to a potential breakout.

In this regard, insights by cryptocurrency trading expert Ali Martinez in an X post on March 14 noted that the digital asset has been consolidating inside a symmetrical triangle pattern.

This formation typically precedes a strong directional move once price escapes the narrowing range.

The triangle’s upper boundary slopes down from about $1.70, forming lower highs, while the lower boundary rises from roughly $1.28, creating higher lows. This tightening range reflects declining volatility as buyers and sellers reach equilibrium, often signaling an impending breakout.



Notably, the pattern formed after $XRP dropped more than 30%, with the asset then moving sideways while repeatedly testing both support and resistance. Each rejection has further compressed the range, bringing the price closer to the triangle’s apex, where a breakout becomes more likely.

What next for $XRP price

In this case, a decisive break above resistance or below support could trigger a move of about 30%. A bullish breakout above the descending resistance near $1.45 could send $XRP toward the $1.75–$1.80 range, while a drop below support around $1.34 may lead to a similar move to the downside.

Meanwhile, $XRP has shown some movement in the past 24 hours in line with broader cryptocurrency market sentiment. Despite the short-term positive shift, the asset remains well below its late-2025 peak of around $3.65, down roughly 62% from that high, reflecting broader caution in the crypto market.

Year-to-date performance remains negative, with some analysts noting declining March returns in recent years and warning of potential dips toward the $1.11–$1.30 range

Why this 50% threshold matters so much

Less than half of the supply held by short-term holders, that is, investors who entered less than 155 days ago, is currently in unrealized gains. For Glassnode, this blockage reflects a hesitant market. In short, BTC may rebound temporarily, but it still lacks the psychological base needed to trigger a strong recovery.

The Bitcoin market often operates on psychological tipping points. The 50% threshold is one of them. When more than half of the short-term holders return to profit, the mood shifts. Selling pressure eases, and risk appetite returns gradually.

Conversely, when this proportion remains below half, a large part of recent entrants holds losing positions. This detail weighs heavily. These investors are often the most sensitive to volatility. They sell faster, cut losses earlier, and react more strongly to market shocks.

Glassnode points out that this situation generally reflects a still timid demand. It is not necessarily a signal of collapse. It is rather the sign of a market that has not yet regained real confidence. As long as this confidence does not return among new entrants, Bitcoin remains vulnerable to incomplete recoveries.
