While the TON Foundation is a more widely known name, few know the story of its early contributors—the NEWTON team (TON core team).

Through voluntary technical contributions, the NEWTON team gained recognition from the official @Telegram team in 2021, ultimately achieving a technical handover that marked one of the most important "community takeovers" in blockchain history.

Introduction: Joining the NEWTON Team and Its Mission

When I joined the NEWTON team, our main task was very clear: to enhance developer tools while maintaining the stability of the TON testnet2 code.

Since we couldn't directly control the ton-blockchain GitHub repository, but needed to continuously optimize the code, we formed a new organization called NEWTON.  To ensure smooth network updates, we encourage the community to use the validators developed by NEWTON as the standard version.

From our inception until June 2021, the NEWTON team completed several groundbreaking development and infrastructure projects. Let's delve into 10 key contributions that shaped TON's early days.

1. mytonctrl: An Automated Node Management Tool

Our first major contribution was mytonctrl, a powerful automation tool for node installation and validator setup.

It provided essential functionality including wallet creation, contract deployment, transaction history retrieval, and even a DNS registration system—interestingly, the DNS at that time was different from the DNS used in modern NFT packaging today.

After several months, another Layer 1 public blockchain has secured a funding round valued at over $1 billion. Pharos, touted as a high-performance parallel Layer 1 public blockchain, announced a new round of capital cooperation with GCL New Energy, a Hong Kong Stock Exchange-listed company. GCL New Energy invested $24.73 million in Pharos at a valuation of $950 million.

GCL New Energy is a well-known private photovoltaic power generation company in China, primarily engaged in the development, construction, operation, and management of solar power plants. This aligns perfectly with Pharos's focus on RWA (Resilient Web Applications), making this a strategically significant transaction for both parties.

 However, this transaction has also raised many questions in the market. Given the current dismal secondary market, can Layer 1 and RWA projects truly still achieve valuations of around $1 billion in the primary market? And will listed companies readily invest in such high-risk assets?

A Mutually Binding, Performance-Based Transaction

Many details hidden within the complex announcements reveal that this is not a conventional direct financing transaction, but rather a bundled transaction involving mutual investment, phased delivery, and a market capitalization performance-based agreement. All core delivery conditions are firmly held by GCL New Energy. If any condition is not met, the transaction will be nothing more than a worthless piece of paper without any substantial binding force.

Specifically, Pharos's share subscription in GCL New Energy is a pre-contractual investment. It will subscribe to a maximum of 183,480,000 new shares at HK$1.05 per share, worth approximately HK$150 million. This price represents a 15% discount compared to GCL New Energy's current share price (HK$1.23).

Bitcoin whales are starting to accumulate again at $71K: Santiment

Large Bitcoin wallets are increasing their holdings again as the asset’s price holds around $71,000, according to crypto sentiment platform Santiment.

“Their recent shift to accumulation is a bullish signal,” Santiment said in a report on Saturday, referring to wallets holding between 10 and 10,000 Bitcoin ($BTC).

“This is a positive reversal,” Santiment added. Santiment data shows wallets holding 10 to 10,000 Bitcoin ($BTC) now control 68.17% of Bitcoin’s total supply, up from 68.07% seven days earlier.

Santiment eyeing retail investor activity

Santiment said that a potential local bottom in Bitcoin could be forming if whales continue accumulating while retail investors’ share of holdings begins to decline.

“Ideally, we want to see small wallets (retail) drop while this group rises, signaling a transfer of coins from weak hands to strong hands,” Santiment said.

An increase in retail buying suggests over-optimism, since Bitcoin’s price has historically bottomed when everyday investors start losing hope and selling.

At the same time, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index stayed in “Extreme Fear” on Sunday at 16, signaling investors are still cautious.

Bitcoin is trading at $71,350 at the time of publication, up 6.30% over the past seven days.

Just over a week ago, Bitcoin whale activity was vastly different. Santiment reported on Mar. 6 that, in the two days prior, whales had sold 66% of the Bitcoin they bought between Feb. 23 and Mar. 3, just as Bitcoin surged past $70,000 and briefly touched $74,000.
