Solana price registers 14% rally, how SOL and utility protocols are shaping crypto in Q1 2026

The cryptocurrency industry entered a dynamic phase in the first quarter of 2026, characterized by a shift from speculative trading to a focus on network utility. Leading this charge is Solana (SOL), which recently broke out of a month-long consolidation range with an impressive 14% rally. As the industry matures, the spotlight is moving toward utility projects that build functional financial infrastructure. 
Solana (SOL) is trading at approximately $88.38, boasting a market capitalization of over $50 billion. The recent 14% rally saw the asset decisively move above the $85 support level, a zone that had acted as a ceiling for much of February. Technical analysts are now watching the $95 to $100 resistance range as the next major hurdle. If SOL can maintain its momentum and stay above its 20-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) near $86, it may target a recovery toward the $120 mark later this month.

In a recent interview, Ripple’s President Monica Long explained that Ripple Labs is focused on maintaining a long-term relationship with the 300+ financial institutions the IT company had partnered with in recent years.

One of the most standing-out remarks was made in a similar fashion to Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse, who recently predicted that multi-trillion capital would start to rotate into XRP’s Ledger, given that the regulatory landscape has completely shifted in blockchain’s favor.

Ripple’s Monica Long also addressed the lack of clarity in terms of regulation for the past decade. With the passage of the Clarity Act, this is going to result in “a sea of change”, Monica notes. Bank America CEO said “we’re all in” on the Clarity Act, but parties are still divided.

The biggest challenge before activating the Clarity Act is the stablecoin yield, a topic causing a hot debate not only between major bank representatives & crypto industry figures. This proposed version of Clarity Act has divided founders of most popular blockchains & platforms.

To illustrate, Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse extended support to the revamped version of the stablecoin-focused bill. He cited Donald Trump’s latest message on the matter, claiming that U.S. banks are deliberately stalling this crucial bill from completion. “This is, and always has been, about what’s in the best interest of the American people”, – Brad explained.

However, Cardano’s founder Charles Hoskinson doesn’t think the finalization of the Clarity Act on these conditions is “better than nothing”. On the contrary, the outspoken Cardano founder called the Clarity Act a “horrible play” that could curb crypto’s growth by giving too much power to the SEC.

Bitcoin – Derivatives flash ‘mixed signals,’ but is $72K a real possibility?
Bitcoin recently broke above the $70,000 range, a move the market initially interpreted as bullish. The breakout occurred on 02 March, marking the first time the asset reclaimed that level since 16 February.

However, the aforementioned momentum proved short-lived.

Bitcoin [BTC] has since slipped back below, with BTC valued at around $68,000 at press time. The pullback is indicative of the presence of conflicting signals across the derivatives market, leaving the broader outlook for Bitcoin somewhat divided.
The Options market has been exhibiting a period of relative calm as far as Bitcoin’s price expectations are concerned.

One of the clearest indicators came from the crypto’s implied volatility, with the same suggesting that traders are not preparing for a significant price swing in the near term.

According to Glassnode, implied volatility fell well below the highs seen in February. This decline suggested that traders expect only limited price movement in the short term. Such conditions typically occur when implied volatility sits within the 40–60% range – A zone where Options become relatively inexpensive.
At the same time, the Options skew fell from around 20% to roughly 10%, pointing to a more balanced demand between call and Put Options.

In practical terms, this means that traders might not be strongly positioned for either an upside breakout or a sharp downside move. In most market environments, skew tends to reflect clear defensive hedging or aggressive bullish positioning. At press time, neither dynamic appeared to be dominant.

The calm conditions in the Options market offers little directional guidance for Bitcoin. Particularly as the crypto begins to drift towards the lower end of its recent trading range.
