stock market opened lower as economic concerns and rising oil prices had a negative impact on investor sentiment. FTSE 100 index declined 79.21 points to 10,225.94. It reflects larger concerns about slowing economic growth.

FTSE 250 index which represents mid-cap companies with stronger domestic exposure also dropped 0.8% or 177.76 points to 21,990.98. This signals weakness across the wider UK equity market.

Banking and Mining Stocks Lead the Decline
Financial and commodity-linked stocks declined and dragged the index. Banking shares came under pressure as investors reacted to signs of a slowing economy.

Barclays fell by £6.3 to £382 while Lloyds Banking Group slipped £1.1 to £94.3 and extended recent losses in the sector.

Mining companies also faced selling pressure amid volatility in commodity markets. Fresnillo dropped 3.42% to £3,506 and Rio Tinto declined 1.33% to £6,754. Anglo American also traded lower.

Spirax Group also declined 1.74% to £7,050 and Intertek Group backed 2.58% to £3,784.

Energy giant BP gained 1.46% to £536.90 on the upside while Shell advanced 0.93% to £3,359.

Among others Admiral Group jumped 0.56% to £3,236. Centrica gained 0.39% to £207.60 and GSK rose

From Concept to Implementation: fxUSD Integrates with x402, Accelerating the Formation of the Base Agent Economy

The latest development in Base Agent technology: @heurist_ai's x402 Facilitator now supports the decentralized stablecoin protocol @protocol_fx's fxUSD. On the surface, it seems like just a feature integration, but in essence, it's adding infrastructure to the on-chain agent economy.

The most crucial aspect of this integration is its ability to achieve single-signature authorized transfers on Base using EIP-3009. Simply put, it further compresses the previously complex payment authorization process, making it smoother for AI agents to initiate payments and execute settlements. Fewer steps result in significantly improved overall efficiency. For the increasing number of on-chain applications requiring automated collaboration, automated invocation, and automated settlement, this capability isn't just a bonus, but will soon become standard.

 More importantly, $fxUSD, as a decentralized stablecoin, after being incorporated into the x402 Facilitator, not only adds another payment asset, but also makes the value transfer between agents more realistically usable. In the past, people often talked about agent-to-agent transactions, but in reality, payment, authorization, and settlement are often the most difficult parts to handle.

Now that this combination is working, on-chain AI-automated collaboration will be lighter and easier to scale.

On-chain data shows the Bitcoin spot volume has shown resilience recently while the rest of the cryptocurrency sector has seen a slump.

Altcoins Have Noted A Decline In Spot Activity Since Late January
As highlighted by on-chain analytics firm Glassnode in a new post on X, Bitcoin and the rest of the cryptocurrency market have diverged in terms of the spot trading volume.

The “spot trading volume” is a metric that measures, as its name suggests, the total amount of a given asset that’s becoming involved in trading activities in spot markets.

When the value of this indicator rises, it means more of the cryptocurrency is being shifted around on spot exchanges. Such a trend can be a sign that trading interest in the coin is going up.

On the other hand, the metric observing a decline suggests investor attention may be moving away from the asset as the amount of spot trades is trending down.

Now, here is the chart shared by Glassnode that shows the trend in the 7-day rolling mean value of the spot trading volume for Bitcoin, as well as combined that of the top 500 digital assets:

As is visible in the above graph, the aggregated spot volume for the top 500 cryptocurrencies has been on the way down since October of last year. This decline in trading activity has coincided with a drawdown for the market. Generally, periods with consolidation or bearish action tend to scare investors away, so the recent trend may not be surprising.

What’s interesting, however, is the trend followed by the spot volume of just Bitcoin. From the chart, it’s apparent that initially, the original cryptocurrency followed suit with the rest of the sector, but in February, its volume saw an uplift, including a huge spike that occurred alongside the sharp move down in the asset’s price.

On March 11, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust pulled in $115.51 million in net inflows, accounting for nearly the entirety of the $115.42 million that flowed into US spot Bitcoin ETFs that day. Ethereum spot ETFs added $57 million separately.

The following morning, BlackRock did something it has not done with any previous crypto product. It launched a fund designed to pay investors while they wait.
The iShares Staked Ethereum Trust, trading under the ticker ETHB on Nasdaq, began trading on March 12. It is BlackRock's third crypto ETF and its first to incorporate staking.

Under normal market conditions, ETHB stakes between 70% and 95% of its ether holdings via Coinbase Prime. Investors receive approximately 82% of gross staking rewards, currently running at roughly 3.1% annually, distributed monthly. BlackRock and Coinbase retain 18% as a staking fee.

The fund charges a 0.25% sponsor fee, discounted to 0.12% for the first year on the first $2.5 billion in assets. It launched with just over $100 million in initial assets and recorded $15.5 million in first-day trading volume, which market watchers described as a solid debut for a new ETF.

Bitcoin is attempting to climb above the $72,000 level as the market searches for direction following weeks of volatile and largely sideways price action. While buyers have recently pushed the asset higher, the $72K zone continues to act as a key resistance level, limiting upward momentum as traders evaluate both macroeconomic conditions and on-chain signals.

Amid this technical battle, new research from CryptoQuant analyst XWIN Research Japan highlights a notable shift in Bitcoin’s long-term valuation metrics. The report focuses on the Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) ratio, a widely used on-chain indicator designed to evaluate whether Bitcoin is trading above or below its historical cost basis.

The MVRV ratio compares Bitcoin’s market capitalization with its realized capitalization, which represents the aggregated value of coins based on the price at which they last moved on-chain. By analyzing this relationship, the indicator helps determine whether the average investor is currently holding unrealized profits or losses.

According to the latest data, Bitcoin’s 365-day MVRV ratio has fallen to levels similar to those observed in late 2022 following the collapse of the FTX exchange. During that period, intense market stress pushed many investors into unrealized losses, compressing average returns well below historical norms and marking one of the most difficult phases of the previous market cycle.

MVRV Patterns Suggest Possible Undervaluation Phase
The CryptoQuant report notes that previous periods of depressed MVRV readings have often preceded strong recoveries in Bitcoin’s price. After the sharp market stress that followed the FTX collapse in late 2022, Bitcoin entered a similar valuation zone. In the three months that followed, the asset rallied roughly 67%, marking the beginning of a broader recovery phase.

Price action steadied as broader risk markets bounced. Ether recovered from an intraday low near $1,754 to around $2,068 on February 6. Traders continued to watch whether support near $1,900 holds during heavy positioning shifts.

ETH derivatives  also signaled caution. Sean Dawson, head of research at Derive.xyz, said, “Demand for downside protection is extreme.” Options positioning concentrated around lower strikes into late February expiries, which kept traders alert to further pressure.
