How smart money could trigger Bitcoin’s price breakout beyond $75K
Rising leverage during FUD usually signals one thing – Traders are looking to profit from market swings. 

Put simply, as volatility ramps up, traders begin stacking shorts and longs, trying to ride quick price swings for fast gains while creating opportunities that speculative traders aim to exploit. Notably, smart money appears to be following this playbook now. 

According to Coinglass, leverage is rebuilding after the recent flush, and Open Interest is back near 88K Bitcoin [BTC]. Sure, it’s not at extreme levels yet, but the ingredients for heightened volatility are clearly returning. This could set the stage for sharp moves in either direction.

Large sell walls remain stacked between $72K–$74K, creating significant overhead supply. On the flip side, whales have layered bids below the price, with support forming around $70.5K–$71K and a deeper cluster near $69K–$70K.

In essence, such positioning reinforces AMBCrypto’s thesis. Amid growing macro FUD, smart money is looking to profit by opening leverage and taking positions for or against Bitcoin. especially as BTC nears the key $75K resistance.

Japan-based Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has diversified its operations with the launch of venture capital (VC) and asset management subsidiaries. 

In a statement on the 12th of March, Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich showcased the move as an aggressive vertical integration into the Bitcoin and digital asset ecosystem across Western and Asian regions. 

For Metaplanet Ventures, Gerovich said, 

Metaplanet Ventures is our commitment to Japan’s Bitcoin ecosystem. We’ll be investing ¥4 billion over the next few years into companies building Bitcoin financial infrastructure in Japan.

That would translate to over $25 million commitment to infrastructure plays covering lending, custody, payments, stablecoins, and more. The VC has already invested 400 million yen, about $2.5 million, in JPYC Inc., the first licensed stablecoin issuer in Japan.

With a circulating supply above $300 billion and annual trading volumes exceeding $23 trillion in 2024, stablecoins have matured into a parallel dollar infrastructure. The Bitcoin network saw its 20 millionth $BTC mined this week, leaving just 1 million coins left to be paid as rewards to miners.

The milestone has crypto industry observers taking stock of the rapidly changing Bitcoin mining industry, and weighing the economics of a shifting landscape against expectations of Bitcoin’s performance as an investment.

Mining companies help secure the Bitcoin network and verify transactions, expending large amounts of energy in a race to solve cryptographic puzzles in exchange for transaction fees and newly created Bitcoin as rewards. It’s taken miners 16 years to mine the 20 millionth coin from Bitcoin’s inception, but it could take roughly 115 years to unlock the remaining supply, according to Wolfie Zhao, the head of research at TheEnergyMag.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the Bitcoin mining industry will look the way it does for the next century. John Todaro, a managing director and senior research analyst at Needham & Company, expects many publicly traded miners to exit Bitcoin mining in 2027 and 2028.

“We believe a large portion of the public Bitcoin miners will sell down nearly all of their Bitcoin holdings before year-end 2026 as they embark on [capital expenditure] spend related to AI workloads,” he wrote in a recent note shared with Decrypt. In other words, Bitcoin mining companies are pivoting to AI.

All the publicly traded Bitcoin miners the firm covers have allocated a portion of their compute power to high-performance computing, or HPC, and AI. It’s a shift that’s been going on for years.

And it’s easy to see why, he added.

To get an idea of how big a deal AI-based commerce could be for crypto, ask entrepreneurs and developers involved in digital assets, particularly stablecoins. They'll happily tell you blockchain-based money is the natural fit, an essential element in the mix and so forth.

Their logic is simple. Over the past few years, stablecoins — mostly digital versions of the dollar on public blockchains like Ethereum — have begun eating into the global payments industry. And while they've proven to be faster and cheaper than traditional bank transfers, it’s in the new world of autonomous, micro-transacting AI agents that they will shine.

That, at least, is the view of companies like Circle Internet (CRCL), the creator of the second-largest stablecoin, and technicians at crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN), which has led engineering on x402, a payments protocol designed for use by autonomous AI agents in a field becoming known as agentic finance.

Just as 24/7, frictionless, cross-border payment has been a growth area for stablecoins, agentic commerce has particular requirements that the dollar-pegged tokens meet, according to Dante Disparte, Circle's chief strategy officer and head of global policy. Those include the ability to program the coins so they transfer only when particular conditions are met and to daisy chain, or compose, a set of actions that occur on receipt of a token.

“Firstly, you have to be able to exploit the otherwise really innocuous features of stablecoins, which is programmability and composability,” Disparate said in an interview. “Number two, where the stablecoin lives, the physical blockchain ledgers themselves, are the common reference point the agents will turn to.”
