Bitcoin Crash Far From Over? Analyst Shares How Painful Bear Markets Can Get

Bitcoin’s extended pullback from its all-time high has left traders in uncertainty, and many investors are unsure whether the worst of the decline has already passed.

One analyst known as Jelle on X is of the notion that the conversation may be missing an uncomfortable reality that Bitcoin bear markets often become far more painful than most participants expect. The price data, he argues, supports a more concerning interpretation of how Bitcoin’s current pullback will play out.

Current Bitcoin Decline Still Smaller Than Previous Bear Markets

Crypto analyst Jelle issued an interesting warning to investors who may be underestimating the depth and duration of Bitcoin bear markets. In a post on X, Jelle noted that Bitcoin is currently down roughly 44% from its all-time high of $126,080, with the February local bottom around $63,000 registering a 53% decline from the peak. These sound severe on the surface. However, they are relatively modest against the historical record.

Historical data shows that Bitcoin’s previous bear markets pushed the asset much deeper below its peak. The market collapse following the 2017 rally eventually erased about 84% of Bitcoin’s value, while the bear market that followed the 2021 cycle bottomed near a 77% decline.

A review of the chart Jelle shared, which is shown below, illustrates just how consistent the cyclical structure has been. Since 2014, Bitcoin has oscillated through periods of sustained accumulation and declines. Each bull run lasts approximately 150 to 152 weeks, and each bear market persists for anywhere between 52 and 58 weeks.

If Bitcoin pauses or slips slightly from $95K, the altcoin market could also see temporary declines as traders rebalance their portfolios.
However, many long-term analysts remain optimistic about Bitcoin’s overall trend. Institutional interest, increasing adoption, and growing recognition of Bitcoin as a digital store of value continue to support the broader bullish narrative. Some market strategists believe that even if Bitcoin experiences a correction, strong support zones around $90,000–$92,000 could absorb selling pressure.

Equity perps been popping on my CT feed lately, so I dove into @Delphi_Digital’s excellent report by @trevor_flipper.

Here's a simple breakdown ↓

1. What even are equity perps?

You know how you can trade BTC/ETH with leverage on Hyperliquid?

Equity perps are the exact same thing but for stocks. AAPL, TSLA, NVDA.

Deposit USDC, pick a stock, go long or short with leverage, 24/7.

2. The problems right now:

Expensive. You're paying 11–31% annually just to hold a position vs 6.5% if you used a normal broker.

Order books are thin. Big orders move the price a lot.

Trade outside US market hours and spreads blow out badly. The price on the perp drifts away from the real stock price overnight.

3. So why does anyone care?

Because crypto perps looked exactly like this in 2024.

Everyone said the same thing: too expensive, books too thin, not worth it.

Then something changed.

Spot BTC launched directly on Hyperliquid and traders started buying real BTC and shorting the perp to collect that expensive funding as free yield.

That single flow cut BTC funding costs nearly in half within months, from ~18% down to ~9%. ETH followed the exact same path, dropping from ~15% to ~8%.

4. Equity perps are next:

US regulatory clarity is coming. NYSE is moving toward 24/7 trading.

Once you can trade the actual stock alongside the perp on the same platform, the same trade happens:

Buy real AAPL, short AAPL perp, collect funding.

Flagship cryptocurrency Bitcoin price dropped today below $71,000, after the U.S. bombed military targets on Kharg Island, near Iran’s main crude export facility. 

The price of Bitcoin erased the gains it made on Friday when it reached $73,927, falling nearly 2% as risk sentiment weakened across markets. Despite this drop, Bitcoin ETFs continue to see inflows for the last 5 straight days.

Trump Warns of Strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said U.S. forces carried out major bombing operations targeting military positions on Kharg Island, a strategic location near Iran’s primary oil export infrastructure.

He warned that energy facilities on the island could become targets if Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Kharg Island handles more than 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, making it one of the most critical locations in the country’s energy system.

Oil prices have already surged more than 40% since the conflict began, increasing pressure on global markets.

Iran responded by warning that it could attack oil infrastructure linked to the United States if energy facilities on Kharg Island are targeted.

Polymarket reports also indicate that Iran is considering allowing oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz only if payments are made in Chinese yuan instead of U.S. dollars, adding another layer of tension to global energy markets.
