U.S. freezes crypto network that fed nearly $800 million to North Korea's weapons programs

The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned eight people and organizations tied to a North Korean scheme that brought in close to $800 million last year, much of it moved through cryptocurrency, by tricking American companies into hiring fake tech workers. The money went straight toward building nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, known as OFAC, announced on March 12, 2026, that it had blacklisted six individuals and two entities for their part in a fraud network run by North Korea's government. The money raised in 2024 was used to fund the country's weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs, breaking both U.S. law and United Nations sanctions.

North Korean tech workers use stolen identities, fake documents, and made-up profiles to land jobs at real companies around the world, including in the United States. The North Korean government takes most of the wages these workers earn and uses the money for its weapons programs. Some workers have also secretly installed malware inside company systems to steal data, which they used to demand ransom payments.

Ethereum Price Forecast
Ethereum’s daily chart still looks structurally weak, and the moving averages make that clear. ETH trades below $2,030, which leaves it below the 50-day SMA at $2,187, the 100-day SMA at $2,637, and the 200-day SMA at $3,271. That stacked alignment shows trend damage across short-, medium-, and long-term timeframes, with each major average now acting as overhead resistance.
More importantly, the recent sideways movement near $2,000 does not yet reveal reclaiming strength. It shows ETH stabilizing well beneath its trend markers, which usually means the market is trying to build a floor, not launch a confirmed reversal.

The Aroon indicator adds to that cautious view. Aroon Up sits near 42.86%, while Aroon Down is much lower at 14.29%, suggesting bullish trend pressure remains weak even after the recent consolidation. In simple terms, Ethereum has stopped falling aggressively, but buyers still have not produced the kind of persistent highs needed to shift trend control.

Tesla secures SpaceX stake through xAI merger ahead of IPo

Tesla has received regulatory clearance to convert its investment in Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm xAI into a small stake in SpaceX, formalizing financial ties between the billionaire’s companies ahead of the rocket maker’s planned initial public offering, according to a Bloomberg report.

Filings with the US Federal Trade Commission list Tesla as the acquirer of a SpaceX stake from Musk. The documents, dated March 11, also show Musk selling additional holdings to investors, including Valor Equity Partners and DFJ Growth.

The filings relate to Tesla’s previously disclosed $2 billion investment in xAI, which was recently rolled into SpaceX following the merger of the AI firm with the rocket company. The conversion would leave Tesla with a stake of less than 1% in SpaceX.

Musk previously acquired Twitter in 2022 and later merged the platform, now called X, with xAI in a $33 billion deal. That move paved the way for the SpaceX tie-up, creating a combined entity valued at about $1.75 trillion when the transaction was announced earlier this year.

Alameda Research was once one of the most influential trading firms in the cryptocurrency industry. Founded by Sam Bankman-Fried, the company operated as a quantitative trading desk closely tied to the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Alameda played a major role in providing liquidity across digital asset markets and maintained large positions in several major cryptocurrencies, including Solana.

However, the firm collapsed in November 2022 following the dramatic failure of FTX. Investigations revealed that billions of dollars in customer funds had been misused and transferred between the exchange and Alameda, triggering a liquidity crisis that quickly spiraled into one of the largest bankruptcies in crypto history.

Since then, Alameda’s remaining digital assets have been gradually managed through court-supervised bankruptcy proceedings. The periodic unstaking and distribution of SOL tokens reflects the ongoing effort to recover value for creditors while liquidating portions of the estate’s remaining cryptocurrency holdings.
