The project was carried out with Coinbase and Paxos, and involved two stablecoins: PayPal USD running on the Solana network and USD Coin on Ethereum.
This pilot is a major milestone for the insurance industry. It makes Aon the first large insurance broker to experiment with regulated digital assets for corporate-scale premium payments.
By using Solana’s high-speed infrastructure, the test showed that blockchain technology could cut settlement times from several days down to just minutes. That means faster payments, improved transparency, and a more efficient alternative to traditional banking systems.
What This Could Mean for the Future
Industry analysts believe this experiment could accelerate the adoption of tokenized treasury systems in the insurance sector.
As networks like Solana evolve beyond speculative trading and move toward high-volume payments and institutional settlements, stablecoins may soon become the preferred method for cross-border insurance transactions.

Wells Fargo files WFUSD trademark for crypto payments and trading

US banking giant Wells Fargo has filed a trademark application covering a wide range of cryptocurrency trading, payments and blockchain software services.

A filing submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Tuesday seeks protection for the name "WFUSD." The application is currently awaiting assignment to an examining attorney, according to official trademark records.

The filing outlines a broad list of potential products and services linked to digital assets, including "cryptocurrency trading services; cryptocurrency exchange services; cryptocurrency payment processing; financial brokerage services for cryptocurrency trading; electronic transfer of virtual currencies."

The trademark also covers software tools designed for blockchain ecosystems. The application lists downloadable software for staking digital assets, accessing non-fungible tokens (NFTs), managing crypto wallets and executing digital asset trades.

The report highlights the extent of cryptocurrency acceptance in India, according to Prof. S. Shanthakumar, Director of Gujarat National Law University, nearly 12 crore Indians are already using crypto assets despite the absence of a comprehensive regulatory framework. He added, “The report ultimately presents five possible regulatory models, leaving policymakers with practical options to consider while shaping India’s approach to crypto regulation.”

Many major economies have implemented explicit crypto-asset laws informed by comparative regulatory models and global policy trends.
