Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the rollout of a native, non-custodial Gram wallet across the messaging app, describing it as potentially the largest deployment of a non-custodial wallet in history. The move aims to bring instant, zero-fee crypto transactions to Telegram's over one billion users, integrating digital assets directly into the platform. The news triggered a more than 7% price increase for TON/GRAM, pushing the token to around $1.53. However, it remains below its May peak near $2.80, facing immediate resistance around $1.60. Analysts suggest a break above this level could improve sentiment toward $1.80, while a failure to hold gains might see a retest of support near $1.40.

Currently, it is possible to purchase stars, pay for premium subscriptions, use the crypto wallet, and trade Gram (Toncoin) tokens within Telegram, according to Denis Polyakov, head of the "Digital Economy" practice at GMT Legal. He states there are currently no legal issues for users in Russia because only Pavel Durov personally, not Telegram's operating company, is listed as a terrorist/extremist. However, Polyakov suggests the Russian government might in the future add Telegram's operator company to the Rosfinmonitoring (Federal Financial Monitoring Service) list, similar to Meta in 2022. For now, Rosfinmonitoring has confirmed that sanctions against Durov do not apply to Telegram as a legal entity. This clarification comes after Russia's Federal Security Service opened a criminal case against Durov for allegedly "facilitating terrorist activities." A deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy had previously advised Russians to stop buying TON (Gram), paying for subscriptions, or conducting any transactions within the Telegram ecosystem.

The GRAM token (formerly Toncoin/TON) experienced a sharp decline of nearly 6% early on August 4th following the temporary removal of Telegram from the App Store. Apple removed the app for approximately one hour due to user-posted content violating its policies against child sexual exploitation material. After Telegram promptly removed the content and blocked the user, the app was reinstated. Following Telegram's return to the App Store, the GRAM price partially recovered. It had been trading around $1.41 before the news, dropped to $1.32, and was around $1.38 later that day. The token's reaction to Telegram-related news is often mixed. While it surged 20% on the heels of a June rebranding and rose 7% after an announcement about a major non-custodial wallet launch, it showed little sustained movement in response to legal issues involving Telegram founder Pavel Durov. GRAM reached its all-time high of $8.24 in the summer of 2024, meaning its current price represents a decline of roughly 83% from that peak.
